aaand here's the prog for painting. i backdated the other one for when i actually sewed it together ahah.

i'll try keep updating :3 maybe this will keep me motivated

First step was to put together the actual kimono before painting. I uh, did the thing i usually do because i think i'm bigger than i am and made this a bit too big so i've taken it as much as i can, it's still a bit huge but i'll have to deal.

I forgot to post progress here, so here's one WIP shot just after I finished most of the costume for documentary purposes.

This was my first time working with real leather to this extent, I think. The gloves and collar parts were real leather and I think the investment really paid off!

As for the dress... I topstitched all the seams on it by hand because I thought that'd look more correct. I had a lot of trouble attaching the collar to the dress for some reason, I initially wanted to topstitch the leather parts was well but it was too thick. Alas.

Still.... I'm pretty happy with this outfit otherwise! Just need to do the embroidery on the sleeves because I ran out of time to do it before fanfest.

So I managed it... I thought it'd be funny to make this image to show how far I've come? But also it's a bit embarrassing 😂 I don't know if I look that different.

I'd like to remake the wig though.

Just need to attach the skirt to the bodice and make sure that all fits ok..... and also sew on all the little pink flowers + ribbons on the bodice. The stupid scallopy things are kinda wonky but idc, it's still a bit better than my first attempt at this costume, i think.

I haven't even touched the wig yet and we're flying to Finland on Thursday - i may just have to bs some hair buns real quick for the upcoming con and fix it properly for Hibana...

also sorry for how messy my floor is lmfao

Remember when I cut up a shirt to make the bolero...? shhh yeah I'm not doing that again even though i was tempted.... (have i progressed at all?)

I've been way too busy doing artwork for my table at Kupocon, so I haven't really had the chance to make this outfit properly - so closet cosplay it is!

The outfit for my character has evolved a little, I'm still making the starter outfit later but Gogomi always wears a fluffy hat with a pom pom now, so I'm going to make that too! This is the design I'll be going for (pictured here with Rune Lohijka / Roon)

I'm super happy with the photos we took but when I've looked back it's a little embarassing that my juban shows like this under the sleeves... The cosplay looks good otherwise, and I doubt anyone notices or cares, but someone who knows anything about kimono might think this is awful haha sobs

The photos are gonna be shown in the Utena fashion zine that's coming out at the end of this month... I'll post them here after that!

I went with a design where I could use mostly parts of other costumes/my old yukata stuff for this (the juban + hakama + the yellow obi), but ofc i still need to make a really dumb cow-print kimono. Because I'm only going to be wearing this with a hakama, I decided to cut it short rather than make it a kimono that would need ohashori so it's only 150cm long. It's also less to try fit under the hakama, which I cut a bit shorter in the Taisho Roman style (for Takiko from FY).

The collar is double width (unlike my Nora yukata) and folds over so that I can add the dateeri, which was made from scrap green fabric and some fabric for an upcoming CCS cosplay:
http://kidorakujapan.com/know/women_accessory_dateeri.html

I designed the sleeves to be a bit long, but not full length furisode. See under ko-furisode here:
https://maihanami.wordpress.com/2016/02/20/types-of-kimono-furisode/

Something I noticed, and should have thought of earlier though, is that my juban was made for Nora from Noragami, who doesn't have furisode-length sleeves! This means I have to hide the juban's sleeve length by pinning it so it doesn't show from behind. In the future I should make another red juban with furisode-length sleeves for this and my Kalluto furisode, which actually also had this problem, since I used the same juban for that as well...

If I'm not too lazy, I should probably re-make both Kalluto and Nora at some point, because I've learned a lot from making so many kimono e_e;;

so .. i ended up googling this costume to see if I could find out how other people made it - and then someone mentioned, after making tomoyo, that there were figurines.. and THIS IS THEM.. but they don't seem to actually match the artwork...

so now i'm torn between making the figure version or the version I interpreted in my head. what do,,,,

Posting this here for reference, just in case

Useful tutorial: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/summer-parasol?ref=similar

This costume was 99% an excuse to add to my kitsuke collection, so my gf and I trawled rakuten for shit I wanted anyway. The only things I need to make now are a white juban (I only have the red one I made for Nora last time) and a naginata prop. I might want to shorten the hakama too, and get a more accurate wig.

I've always wanted a hakama that I could wear with boots like a real Taisho heroine;;;

Tbh I'm just making a journal entry because I found a very useful video for learning how to put on women's hakama and wanted to link it for reference. ( https://youtu.be/BBLANq5-Koo )

I'm gonna start making this soon but I wanted to link to some useful tutorials so I don't lose them. The obi for this is different from the obi i made before, but for the kimono I can use the other resources (and the pattern) I made for Nora - the only difference is that this is a furisode so the sleeves are full length. I'm also just going to re-use the juban and obiage that I made for Nora, how convenient that they are the same! lol

reference for which chains go on which finger uwu

I tried to make this as traditionally as possible except for the obi (which is a scaled up butterfly tsuke-obi with some modifications)

Just so that I have easy access to these resources for future reference (if I ever decide to do another kimono cosplay, or if i forget how to tie an obiage etc. lolol), I'll put a journal here! The image is from when I just finished making everything. I need to make sure I wear it less sloppily, the neckline is a bit messed up u_u

It's done im finished its all over
im gonna look like a cake

pic from just before i sewed up the sleeves ehh

I decided to delete my last journal entry because I was having a small crisis
but I MEAN SERIOUSLY I AM DROWNING IN WEFTS
BECAUSE I KEPT NEEDING TO BUY MORE TO COVER UP HOLES
AND MY DRILLS AREnT" LONG ENOUGH BUT I'VE GIVEN UP
UNROLLED THEY TAKE UP THE WHOLE LENGTH OF MY ROOM WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO STRETCH THEM INTO THE HALLWAY???????? MY HOUSE ISN'T BUILT FOR THIS!!!!!!!!!
MAYBE I'LL REMAKE THE WIG FOR A SHOOT IF I'M NOT A LAZY ASS (I've heard matte black tape might be better for this as the wefts adhere to it better and holes are less obvious. Probably I ought to use more solid wire too, and more patience with wefts. )

CHRIST THOUGH THIS IS suCH A MONSTROSITY
