Well the first part of my cosplay is finished. Now to get to work on the rest.

Decided to break this costume out again. Wore a wig with it this time which looks much nicer and got some better photo's this time too :)

Credit for 3 of the photos goes to https://www.facebook.com/LeagueOfExtraordinaryCosplayers?fref=photo

Well the major part of this costume was obviously making the jacket but I finally got there and I have to say I'm really happy with how it came out.

The picture isn't great. The actual materials I used are lighter than this.

Well I've finished my trousers. They look really good on apart from the fact that they are a lot shorter than when I bought them lol. Not that anyone will notice when I have my boots on.

One tip I have is that I stitched down each of the ridges on the inside seam and the outside seam of the trousers as they stuck out a bit when wearing them. This just made it look much tidier afterwards.

Please buy trousers that are too long for you. Even though no-one could tell that mine turned into ankle swingers I do really wish they were full length and would definitely get trousers that are too long for me in the future to alter if I did these again.

It really makes me laugh when I look at how short they are >_<

I also started working on my trousers today and adding in the ridge pattern he has going down them. Now the tutorial I used specified to get trousers that are several inches too long for you but as I wanted a cheap pair and was running out of time before the convention I ended up just buying regular length ones instead. This does mean that they have now turned into ankle swingers because of the adjusting but I don't really care as I'm wearing boots with them and they cover that up.

Here's the tutorial I used if anyone is planning on making some Matt trousers too.

Well I'm slowly making progress on the jacket. Adding the fur is the worst part but I knew it wasn't going to be easy when I chose to cosplay him so I cant complain.

Just got some more strips of fur to add and to tidy up the fur around the arm holes, then to add the zip and then the lining. I'm dreading doing the collar and making it stand up right >_<

Wow I haven't posted about this cosplay for ages. Goes to show that I am one of those people who tends to leave actually making my cosplays to the last minute before a convention.

Got all my materials for Matt's jacket now just to make the damn thing >_<

Well I completely neglected posts for a while but that's because I had a real last minute rush to get things finished before the convention. All in all though it was a success with only a few costume malfunctions, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed. Had a great time at the convention and cant wait till the next one now.

DON'T LEAVE MAKING YOUR COSTUME TILL THE LAST MINUTE LIKE ME, YOU WILL END UP STRESSED, ANGRY AND A LOT OF TEARS >_<

Almost finished my handles and blades. All I have for the blades is to paint them now. For the handles I've glued and pinned them all together now I just need to shape them and paint it all.

Thought Id better get started on my 3D MG as there are only 4 weeks left till the convention. I did have some old entries on here where I had made the sheaths out of cardboard but I wasn't happy with the sizes Id done so I'm starting again from scratch with foamboard. This just shows the measurements that I'm making it now. Slightly thinner than the last ones.

Fyi I'm 5'3. Approx 159cm tall.

Righto so today I worked on my wig and make-up. Now I must say I think the wig has turned out really well just need to work on the make-up a bit more.

Unfortunately you cant really see a lot of the make-up in these pictures but I'll work on that. I also don't like how the eyebrows have come out so I'll be changing those too.

Ok I'm so nearly finished with the bottom half of my harness. Iv pretty much got it all sewn together with the buckles on too. Now all I have to sort out is how I'm going to attach it to the belt in a way that I can still pull everything down to go to the loo lol.

Just a picture of everything that Iv got so far for my handles and blades. Still got some more stuff to do on them before they are completely finished but slowly getting there.

Today I filed over the pieces for my handles to make sure that they all fit together perfectly and to remove any splintered edges.I did this by using a Die Sander and by clamping all the pieces together to do the separate sections all at once.

Today I got some more pieces for my handles cut out. Its starting to come together and actually look like a proper handle now. Still have some more to cut out before I can start fitting it all together.

To see how one leg would roughly look I decided to pin the straps together for one side in order to get an idea of how they would all fit together. Im definitely going to have to get my mum to help me with assembling this. Its quit loose when I put it on myself so I need another pair of hands to make sure its as tight as possible.

Sorry for the bad photo quality, I should have worn my white trousers for this to make it easier to see.

Today I pinned and stitched all my straps. I folded the leather over at the back and then stitched down both sides equally. I backed over each end before I stitched all the way down to make sure that the stitching was extra secure.

To mark out my straps onto my leather I got a belt that was the width that I wanted the straps to be and marked it twice, side by side, so that it was wide enough for me to fold over when I pin and sew it.

Today I thought I'd make a start on my harness. To help with the measurements for the separate straps I put on my white jeggings and, with some black tape, I marked out where the straps will go on the bottom half of my body. I then got my mum to measure each strap for me.

Ok so here's a list of stuff I have so far and where I got them for any one who is having trouble. I know I did.

Gloves: ebay (they go over my elbows but I just fold them inside to desired length)

Wig: (http://www.coscraft.co.uk/prince/447-prince-in-rich-dark-brown.html)

Top: Actually got mine from amazon but its cheaper here on their website (http://www.fuzzdandy.co.uk/mens-longsleeve-stripey-top-red--black-166-p.asp)

Goggles: (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Birdz-Eagle-Black-Frame-Motorcycle-Goggles-with-Yellow-Shatterproof-Polycarbonat-/141213423831?)

Gameboy: Already had it. Thought this was better to use than my newer 3DS because its closer to the time period.

Got my wig today and I love it. I got it from Coscraft for £16.50. Next up is styling it but because I'm not actually wearing my Matt cosplay till October I wont do any of that till closer to the time. Only got the wig whilst it was back in stock from being out of stock for a few months.

Today I looked at the wooden pieces I cut out yesterday and decided to tweak the shape of them. All the areas I have shaded in will be the parts that I cut off. Also drew on the shape of the blade base to see how it will fit inside the handle.

And I realize that it looks like a penis lol.

I have finally got back into my prop making. Today I started to cut out the middle pieces of wood for my handles. I also cut the bicycle brakes that I'm using within my handles and cut out where they will slot into the wood.

Then to finish off for the day I filed both pieces together so that they matched with the shape as best as possible.

Unfortunately I had to buy a new wig because I was really struggling to cut and style my old one because it was just way too thick. No matter how much I thinned it it just wasn't happening. So instead of buying from a Chinese company (Lucaille), this time I bought from an English one (Coscraft) which was great because it only took two days to turn up.

Its a good wig but at £16.50 I'd expect it to be lol. Looks like its going to be a lot easier to style as well and the parting is better on this one too, it has a skin top parting. So long story short I should have bought from them first >_<

I got bored so decided to do some sketches of the 3D Maneuver Gear. Working out what size I wanted to make it and some of the materials I might want to use.

I missed this out in the drawing but in total it will probably be around 31cm in length which would be including the gas cylinder on top

Got my boots today, just one problem, they are REALLY tall on me. Personally I think I look stupid but hopefully when I have the rest of the outfit sorted they will blend in. If not ill have to think of a way to shorten them somehow.

On the plus side they make awesome pirate boots when the top is folded down lol.

Got my wig ages ago but cant actually remember when it came. Just me wearing it before Iv styled it.

Finished my weapon. Its actually pretty damn heavy so I have an old luggage strap that I can attach to it to hold it on my back. Ill be able to clip the strap on and off with some brackets I still need to attach but that wont take long at all.

This was the last part of my costume that needed finishing as well and sewing my collar for my vault suit. I cut out the leather according to my pattern and stitched it all together. When I had stitched it there were some points in the leather that stuck out so to fix this I just kept sewing the inside until they had gone. Then I got some black edging and stitched that around the edge of the hat.

Once I had done that I cut out so squares with curved edges and a long piece of leather for the final detailing. Before I stuck on the squares I got two metal washers and popped them under the squares so that they would weigh down the sides of my hat. when I had popped them in I put the leather over the top and stitched around it, making sure the long piece of leather was also tucked under one of the squares when I stitched them on.

To finish up I just got some sand paper and a cheese grater and roughed the whole thing up.

Made and painted all of the smaller pieces to finish of my weapon. Just need to attach them.

Cut out the pattern for my aviators hat. Just have to cut out the leather and add all the detailing to it.

I used gold and silver spray paint to cover the whole thing. I sprayed really light areas of black all over as well to make it look less shiny, only using the black spray mist.

I gave everything on my super sledge a base coat of black paint to make the other paint stick easier. I also sprayed my wellies black because I could only buy a cheap pair of blue ones from a charity shop.

Update (24/10/13):
Paint on wellies is still sticky and its the day before the convention. I wouldn't recommend painting wellies because its taking forever to dry.

After the glue had dried and I had peeled off the tape I filled/smoothed in any gaps in the insulation with caulk. After that I worked out which size I wanted to make the details of the handle and cut them out of thin sheets of craft foam. I glued them in place with a glue gun.

Got my Pj's for part of my Levi cosplay. I wont be wearing these during the day they are more for night time shoots. Im staying for the whole 3 days in May so during the day Ill be wearing the uniform and for bedtime these :D

After I had glued everything together for the hammer part I used paper mache to cover the cardboard so that it would be easier to paint and to cover the joins. To tighten the whole thing together I put washers and nuts on the metal rods and tightened them until the whole thing was squished perfectly together.

I made these out of corrugated card. This was one of the trickiest parts so I cant really explain how I did it properly. It was mainly trial and error. I basically just made this from cutting out individual parts and gluing them together with a glue gun. The circular parts in the center are made of a thick tube cut to size and glued in.

To hold the whole thing together to the metal box I stuck a metal rod through the whole thing, each cardboard section and through the metal box, but also inside the metal box I put in a piece of cardboard tube so that the metal box wouldn't crush if the weapon were to fall over at all. I held the rod in by putting a metal washer on each side and tightening them up with a plastic nut. To cover the nuts I glued in a round piece of cardboard.

To make the handle I used two sizes of insulation tubes that I cut down to size and then super glued together. I held it in place with masking tape to make sure it didn't come apart in the night. I also glued it to the wooden bottom piece and to the second circular piece for more stability.

Finished making the bottom piece. Made this the same way as the circular parts for my handle, only I didn't shape it with any tools. For this part I also made two smaller wooden pieces to stick on on top of the base and then for the smaller part that the handle attaches to. The metal parts are made of just that, thin sheets of metal that I shaped and drilled on.

To even out the weight slightly I attached a circular metal plate to the bottom.

Made the circular parts for the handle. Made these by cutting out 4 pieces of wood the same size and then sticking on smaller pieces along the edges of two so that I could sandwich two of the cut out shapes together. We nailed them for extra stability afterwards.

To shape the wood I used an electric sander and a rasp.

Finally got the wig Ill be wearing for the convention because I hate my own hair. Plus I want to make my aviators hat and my hair looks awful in a hat. Just got some styling and cutting to do, and practicing how to put a wig cap on lol, then Ill be all set to start making my aviators hat around my wig. Didnt want to make it first because otherwise it might not fit on my head with the wig on and all my hair up under it.

To make my dynamite I just got several cardboard tubes and cut them all to the same length. Then I got some string and painted it black for the cords. Once they had dried I taped up one end of the tube and then taped in part of the black string just to hold it in place inside the tube. After that I then taped up the remaining end making sure the string stuck out the middle. I then printed out the word dynamite onto some red paper and wrapped it around the tube and stuck it down, folding and cutting it when necessary at the ends.

To make it look more old and rough I got some sand paper and scraped it over the paper to it looked worn, then I just got some dark brown paint and painted over the sticks in places to make it look dirty. Just make sure you don't use to much paint otherwise it will look over the top. Then I stuck the three together with tape. The other one in the picture went wrong first time so I just put it there to show you how I taped it. I might print out another sheet of paper and stick on but I don't know yet.

I fixed my belt today because it broke last time I wore it to the convention. I took it all apart and put it back together although instead of using thin cardboard this time I used two long pieces of laminated paper for more strength. Then I stabled it back onto the back piece and stuck the rest back on. The I decided to repaint it so that it looked old and rusty.

Lastly on this day I drilled all the appropriate holes into each of my wooden pieces. Then I attached the bottom piece of wood onto the pole by drilling holes and pop riveting it on. My dad helped me to get it all in the right position. This will gives us the line from where we add the rest to the top. The joins will b covered by the foam pieces.

I next made the box that will sit in the top part of the super sledge. For this I got a sheet of aluminium and folded it into the shape and size I wanted the box to be. My dad did the bending for me so that it was as straight as possible and to make sure the edges where bent enough. When we had the correct shape I pop riveted the edge where it joins to hold it securely.

I made another part of the sledge today. For this I used left over foam packaging which I cut and shaped to make this part of the weapon. It took a few goes to get it right but I got there in the end. Just need to cut a hole through the middle for the pole to go through and to hold it all together.

I took a long lazy break because I couldn't be bothered to work on it for a while but now I'm slowly getting back into it. Iv decided to change the whole height I'm making it from 134cm to 124cm. Only knocking off 10cm but it makes a pretty big difference. I cut out the metal pieces that will hold my middle and top wooden pieces together but wont attach them yet because I still have the main part that goes between them to make. When I cut them out I filed them down to smooth the tops and get rid of any sharp pieces from sawing it.

The main reason I shortened it was because Im worried about bringing something long into the hall at the convention because I dont want to hit people with it by accident. Iv had my experiences of people flinging things over their shoulders and hitting me in the face >_< The height restriction is 150cm but I just want to be extra careful.

Because I already have a lot of the costume made I'm thinking of what else to make to add to it. I want to make some fake sticks of dynamite as well as my Super Sledge and I need to fix my vault suit belt because it broke on the train when I went to the convention in 2012. I was also thinking that because my vault suit is number 34 that I might buy a cheap faux leather jacket and make a faux leather aviators hat like the boomers wear in the game. My dad has given me some really old aviators goggles that I can wear with it too. I'm also going to have to work on making it all look dirty and weathered too which Iv never done to anything before, so this will be fun when I get to painting my super sledge and making it look like its made of rusting metal >_<

This is hopefully all the wood I'm planning on using because I'm not particularly strong so I still want to be able to carry the damn thing when its finished lol. These are the three platform pieces to form the hammer part of the weapon. I couldn't find anything that looked like the handle in the game so I'm just going to use an old door handle my dad found. Ill attach this on last.

We worked out the size and shape we wanted for two parts of the main top piece. The bottom and middle platforms. I cut out a piece of cardboard for the triangular parts so that it was easy just to trace round it for the first piece. Once we had drawn them out we got out my dads electric saw and cut out two separate pieces the same size and shape as each other. For the second piece I traced around the piece we had just cut out. Then I got out the sand paper and smoothed around the edges.

I decided that for my costume I want to make Oh Baby from Fallout New Vegas because I love using it when I play the game. I'm a melee person. Me and my dad started by working out the size we are going to make it and how big each part will have to be. Its going to be from the floor to my shoulders so that's 134cm for the total height.

Just some tools we plan to use when we start cutting the wood.

I had lots of fun at the convention. It was nice and sunny but had rather cold breezes throughout the day. I even managed to get sun-burnt down my arm. I had loads of pictures taken of me but sadly I cant find any of them :( This is the only one I have of me there which my friend took whilst I was posing for someone else. We were there from 8:30am to 6:00pm so by the end all I wanted to do was sleep.

I held on my fur with Large safety pins. I safety pinned my bottom layer of fur to my dress and tabard because it kept slipping backwards, then my top layer of fur to the bottom piece at the shoulders. I also used large hair grips to also hold on the mask as well as the elastic. I also just used an old woven bag to keep my stuff in which I tied around my waist.

I really did a good job of not finishing this in time. I was about an hour late meeting my friend because I hadn't finished and was still doing stuff when I woke up at 4:30am. The main parts I did where super-gluing the foam to my mask (which my dad had spray painted black for me), sewing in some elastic to keep the mask on my head better and making a metal hook to hook my mask onto when I took it off my head. My mum sewed on the elastic and my dad made the hook so you can imagine we were all really tired and I hadn't even got dressed and sorted yet. When I got it all done I ran upstairs, got dressed and painted my face as quick as I could. Then me and my dad rushed outside to the car and then to the station.

I recommend that you give yourself PLENTY of time for making a costume because I really do not want to be rushing like this again. It really is not fun. It didnt help that I was at work during the weeks too so that gave me even less time but I got there in the end and learned my lesson.

To make the ears all I did was get an old cardboard tube and cut two triangles out if it. This worked pretty well because the triangles were curved for being in a solid circle. Then I cut out two triangle pieces of black felt and red cotton to cover the cardboard. I stitched it all together and the sewed them onto the fur. It was 12:30am at this point so I was exhausted because I had to wake up in 4 hours to get ready for my dad to take me to the train station.

It really sucked at this point because when I went to bed there were still things that I hadn't got done yet >_<

Day before the convention and I decided to leave the whole of the large part of fur till last. I cut out the shape that I wanted. making it slightly curved where it is going to sit on my shoulders. I didn't like how it hung flat on my back so I got my mum to sew in some darts to give it more shape. Then I cut out the lining fabric and stitched it all together. The sewing was pretty hard for this part but pinning to fabric to the fur was the worst. Me and my mum where both getting frustrated because it all kept popping out. We were relieved when it was all finished because it took hours and the convention is tomorrow. Eek I still haven't done everything.

I also stitched my fabric to the hat pins in my mask. Then had to think about making the ears. At this point it was getting near 11pm and I was really tired. Plus I had to wake up at 4:30am to get all sorted and dressed.

I had no idea how I was going to attach my fur the mask. Lots of people said that they used super glue but I really didn't want to risk the whole thing falling apart at the convention. Plus my fur is pretty heavy. So in the end me and mum came up with the idea of using hat pins. I got a few and super glued them inside my mask, not down entirely so that I could sew the fabric to them. The I wasn't convinced that would hold it either so I also covered the base of them in modroc for more security then painted the whole of my inside mask black.

Theres also one right at the front of my mask that the picture doesn't show. This one is for holding the mask onto my back when I don't want it on my head.

My mum bought me some nice fabric that looked like animal hide so that it was more realistic that it had been skinned off a wolf. Lovely thought. This was pretty difficult as I had to make sure all the fur was inside the pinned fabric. I sewed it inside out then pushed the whole thing through a gap in the top and then hand sewed up the gap. When I had sewn it all I stitched mt tooth necklace to the two points that went over my shoulders.

The convention is drawing really near at this stage seeing as its on the 25th.

I cut out the first part of my fur to the shape that I wanted. This is the part that hangs from my shoulders.

Ok finally finished it. The paint job isn't perfect but other than that Im happy with how its turned out. Just used whatever paints I had in the house. I plan on sealing it but don't have anything to do that with yet.

Ok now Iv got all the sculpting done for my mask the only thing I have left to do is paint it. Finally. I added the strips of fimo by smoothing them on with some water. Then I just shaped them how I wanted. I didn't want them flat so I only pressed on them slightly to make sure they were definitely stuck on.

Finished the dress although I'm not sure if I want to rip the bottom of it up or not yet. I had to make another tabard because the other one I made didn't fit over my dress at all. It looked awful.

I got my dad to cut out some holes for me and then I placed my napkin rings where I wanted them. I then sealed them in by smoothing some caulk around the grooves on both the inside and the outside of the masks around the rings. This filled in the gaps around the rings as well.

I decided to add a layer of fimo over the top of the modroc because I didn't like how rough and lumpy it was. I used a rolling-pin to smooth out a large flat piece of fimo and then smoothed it over the base. Once it had dried I sanded it down a bit in places to smooth out the overall shape. Still not completely smooth but I can live with it. I also cut out the circles for Sans earrings. Just waiting for my earring blanks to come. I need clip on because I don't have my ears pierced.

Gosh I like the word smooth lol.

I added the modroc to the paper mache base. I placed it onto my head to see what it looked like and the first time it just sat on my forehead and looked awful so the second time (in the picture) I placed some foam inside it before I put it on my head and it sits much better and doesn't touch my forehead at all. It sticks out quite far at the sides but I tested it by holding some fur under it and with the fur you cant notice how much it sticks out at all.

My spikes have completely dried and I added some beads to see what it would look like. I think ill keep it like that when Iv done the fur.

Sewn most of my dress. All I have left to do is sew on the poppers at the back and put in the rips at the bottom. I made the dress pattern for the top half of the dress too small and unfortunately I had already cut out the fabric so I had to add extra strips to the dress but it doesn't look bad at all. I also made the top out of four separate parts so that I could put all the seams inside and not visible. The bottom is only made from two pieces of fabric.

When the clay had dried I painted it and wrapped some red wool around it.

Made the necklace pieces from some air dry clay I had. Its not the best stuff in the world but it will do. Planning on buying some blue beads for the other parts of the necklace. My clay isn't good enough to make them.

Started by cutting out a pattern from some newspaper and adjusting to the shape and size I wanted. Then I cut out the fabric, which was difficult because Im using jersey for it which is pretty stretchy. Ended up cutting it out twice because the first one didn't cut straight at all.

Made the bands for my arms. They could have looked a lot better but my sewing machine didn't appreciate the metal. Made from navy binding, poppers and washers.

Well my mum finished both my boots today. The second one went a lot quicker than the first because we actually new what we were doing for it. They are made out of canvas and then some linen for the base. Planning on putting something else on the bottom because its pretty slippery. We made it so that I can pop my feet with shoes on inside.

Basically because I was having so much trouble making these myself my mum had to make them for me. We started by cutting out some patterns from newspaper and then cutting and sewing the fabric together. There was a lot of adjusting it to fit as good as we could get it.

Slowly getting all my materials together. Iv now got my fur, dress fabric, tunic and pouch fabric, canvas to go over the shoes, clay for the accessories, blue fimo for Ashitaka's necklace, thread, binding to make the arm and head pieces for which im planning on using washers for the circular parts, napkin rings and my paper mache mask base.

I also have my finished spear but its obviously not in the picture. Dont know whether i'll use the velcro or not. Iv also just ordered my modroc so just waiting for that to arrive. Then I need to find some clip on earring backs because I dont have my ears pierced, so Ill need them to make the earrings.

For the base of the mask I just used paper mache over a metal kitchen bowl. I used 3 sheets of newspaper over it but thats up to how thick people want it. I plan on covering the rest in modroc to make it thicker and firmer. I'm also using the napkin rings for the mouth and eye holes.

Started on making the main parts for Sans spear. Made the spear head from wood and the pole is literally just a metal pole that I spray painted black. The picture is just after I had sawed off the parts of the wooden blocks that I wanted to. Then after that I used a rasp and sandpaper to smooth the whole thing down to the shape I wanted.
