I first started to cosplay 10 years ago. I kind of fell into it when a friend suggested I enter a cosplay comp at the Starfury 2001 convention as I always liked to wear different or wacky outfits. This was my 1st convention and as it was for Farscape, I entered and came 1st in the cosplay comp as Chiana. Unfortunately as this was back in the day of using camera film I only have 1 or 2 bad photos somewhere in my house.
While the comp was a good experience, I did just enjoy cosplaying for the fun of it. Over the next lot of years I did costumes such as Huntress from Birds of Prey and many random vampires for cons and parties.
My 1st costume I wanted particularly accurate and was willing to put a lot of time into it, was in 2008 when I did the Traditional Mrs Lovett costume from Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd, Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Since then I got the bug again and am completely enthralled by Helena Bonham Carter's characters in particular, so to date I have done 2 Mrs. Lovett costumes and my favourite, Helena Bonham Carter's Red Queen costume from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.
I will continue to put the time into costumes when I can, but I will also say that cosplaying for me is a fun, crazy time when I can let a bit of wackiness in my personality shine through.
