AyaCon Cosplay Update

Article by Tak posted Tuesday 21st July 2009

Heads up cosplayers - AyaCon cosplay event registrations are officially open!

This year AyaCon will be hosting a variety of cosplay events, panels and workshops. On Saturday evening cosplayers will have the chance to take to the stage of concert venue Butterworth Hall to strut their stuff in a catwalk Masquerade. If acting is more your thing then the Sunday Night Live show is open for skit submissions.

But wait!

We are also asking you to submit photographs of your favourite costumes to be displayed at the convention in our Cosplay Showcase Gallery. You don't have to be attending AyaCon to join in and it isn't a competition, this is just a chance for all our members to show off their hard work and the costumes you are most proud of. See rules below

  1. All entries are to be emailed to support@cosplayisland.co.uk with the subject 'Cosplay Showcase'.
  2. You may only submit 3 photographs of yourself alone or in a small group. That means you can send in 3 different costumes if you want.
  3. You need to include your:
    - Cosplay Island Username
    - Character Name
    - Series Name
  4. Everyone who submits a photo will have at least one displayed, although if there are a lot of entries we can't guarantee all 3 of your photos will be posted.
  5. The deadline for sending in your photos is the 9th August.

For those of you who have yet to sign up for the three day convention to be held on August 14th - 16th, don't fret there are still places available. Remember you will need to register for the AyaCon to be able to take part in all of the events.

Just adding

Just saying I sent an email along to you guys on the matter of the Gormenghast outfits - hope that got through okay! If not just saying that I am going to be disappearing on holiday for the two weeks leading up to Ayacon (without internet access) so if you could please email Nocturnal Blossom instead and she can phone/text all the things to me (I'm currently the one storing both outfits) :) Hope that's ok!

As long as you still look

As long as you still look human in the photos (unless you are obviously cosplaying something..non..human) I have no objections to photoshop at all ;)

Sweet! One question; if part

One question; if part of the costume has been bought/commissioned/or otherwise not made by yourself, is it still okay to submit?
Cheers :)

Commissioned or bought

Commissioned or bought costumes (whole or parts) are completely welcome, as this isn't a competitive event - it's just a collection of our members' favourite costumes :)

Are you aloud to...

Out of curiosity are you aloud to submit a photo even if you are attending?

Are the cosplay competitions done in the morning a large scale thing infront of an audience or a passing panel affair? This is becuase I get stage fright infront of large crowds and don't want to sign up to something on a major scale by accident.

Yes of course! Any and all

Yes of course! Any and all UK cosplayers are welcome to join, whether you are attending Ayacon or not. This is more to show off our member's talents, regardless of the conventions they have attended.

The competition we are running at Ayacon is yet to be completely finalised, but it will be running Saturday and Sunday morning in a private interview format with a panel of judges - you won't need to go on stage :)

Thank you that makes me so

Thank you that makes me so happy ^^ I get terribly nervous on stages and avoid some competitions becuase of it. So its really nice to know that I don't have to do that.

Photo resolution?

How high-res should the photos be for the showcase? Are there minimum dimensions?

by Sillabub on Monday, 20 July, 2009 - 10:06

There are no minimum

There are no minimum dimensions, but obviously the better quality the image is the larger we can print it :) No need to send through 5mb files, but as long as you could print it out on about A5 without it being too pixelated you should be fine.
