Yukiko Amagi (Princess/Shadow Yukiko) - Persona 4

Hyper Japan July 2015

Showcased 14th March 2016 What is this?

Over the summer of 2014, I got into Persona 4 and had plans to cosplay Yukiko Amagi in her regular outfit, when one of my friends suggested that I should attempt the Shadow version of the character. I'd been wanting to make a ballgown for a while so it seemed like cosplaying Shadow Yukiko was the obvious thing to do.

The corset was made while I was attending a corset making course at the National Theatre so I had a great deal of help with that portion of the costume. The rest was all made and patterned solo by me. The entire outfit is made from duchess satin in varying shades of pink, the roses on the skirt and bodice are made from craft foam and the gloves are pink t-shirt jersey with white lace attached.

Wearing the cosplay is very physically demanding, though that might just be the fact that I'm not used to wearing a corset for long periods of time. I wore it for a few hours at Hyper Japan and was exhausted afterwards. At Kitacon 2015 I wore it for much longer as I was doing the masquerade and that was extremely draining!! But that's probably more of a personal stamina issue than anything else.

I really enjoyed this project as it was my first ballgown and first "extravagant" cosplay.
