The hat brim looks like the inside of my kneecaps when I had to layer the foam to create a smooth curve XD So I will not know it as Cervantes' hat but a giant kneecap :P

Mmmm... plaster moulding. That's going to become my friend too over the next few months. Also, just found newplast for £1.99 a bar in a local shop! Though carrying 4 kilo's is f-ing hard. :(

i adore my hat. i'll be sad when i start surfacing it because i won't be able to put it on randomly. but then i'll be ok again when it's dry, because it will look even better!

Ikkaku-kun posted on 9 June, 2009 - 17:32
hah :P inventive.... but i have 1 question... will we actually be able to see your face in this costume? :O MADNESS!! xD

xaerael posted on 9 June, 2009 - 19:58
ALMOST! i'll have a big bushy beard and lots of makeup on, so my real face will still be a mystery! and maybe a set of contacts... if i can make my eyes stay open long enough to stuff em in!

Kuma posted on 9 June, 2009 - 20:45
You start a project where it looks like you'll be forced into working with fabric... and you make your own latex sheeting for the jacket. You're insane and it's wonderful.

xaerael posted on 10 June, 2009 - 01:45
the trousers and shirt will be material, i promise. however... latex piratey trousers.... hmmm......

Progress Journal

[10th june update] (Posted 10th June 2009)

finished working on the final panel for the lower part of the jacket. i'll be fusing them all together tomorrow then i should be finishing the whole jacket!

[02nd june update] (Posted 2nd June 2009)

started work on the "tentacle" things that are pretty much all over the costume. i guess it's good because the same cast can cover his coat trims, shoulders, boot trims and other bits.

moulds are done, currently doing a first test cast to gauge how many layers of latex to add to each piece. i might make a few more moulds from this cast just to speed things up a little...

viva la plaster casting!
