Emmy Altava - Professor Layton Series

I think I’ve spent enough hours on Professor Layton games that it merits some cosplay. Yellow’s also my favourite colour, so as if my Athena costume wasn’t enough, I’ve now got another variation on a yellow suit. This was a fairly simple, comfy, practical costume and great for a winter con. I also absolutely love the wig I found!

For the coat, I got yellow drill when visiting Goldhawk Road earlier this year and chose a pink lining fabric which I also used for the bowtie. I began with the blazer pattern I'd drafted for Athena since it was about the closest thing I had. It was lengthened and extended so it would close in the front, then the fit and collar adjusted through a couple of mock-ups. It's such a weirdly designed garment since no closures (or seams) are really shown aside from a single button. I was considering trying to mimic the seamless look and make it as a dress with a invisible zip closure, but eventually settled on making it a coat which seemed easier and a more realistic interpretation. It’s fully lined and closes with a couple of snaps, although the belt alone mostly secures it. The button is just decorative and was covered in the same suedette I used for the belt. I painted some buckles I already had for the sleeve straps.

I already had suitable suede boots and some matching brown suedette fabric. I found a belt with a suitable buckle in a charity shop and covered it in the suedette. The pouch at the back is a functional bag and was made from the same suedette with the pink lining I used for the coat. It has heavy interfacing and a magnetic snap closure

I bought a white shirt in a charity shop and made the bowtie using the interfaced lining fabric, it has a brooch fastening to attach it. I already had the leggings.

The wig is the starlet style from Lockshop and is probably the nicest curly wig I’ve ever owned – I didn’t need to do anything to style it either.
