This is my dream cosplay and what Rinoa fan would I be if I didn't add this to my collection? XD
I love the way Dead Fantasy shows Rinoa's power to her full potential, I mean she's a Sorceress after all! A lot of people complained Rinoa was weak in FFVIII but in DF she really gets to kick ass! Her own personal gunblade was a great touch and I just adore her wings x3

"Rinoa Heartilly is a rebellious teenager from Final Fantasy VIII who made her debut to the Dead Fantasy series in the second episode.
Rinoa's intentions are mysteriously un-revealed though it seems that she was responsible for Tifa's arrival at the tower and is revealed to have been watching the ensuing battle, saving the match's combatants from a fiery fate by solidifying the environment in ice before she herself enters the fray along with Kairi. She gracefully duels against Rachel primarily, and also protects her team members on various occasions. After demonstrating telekinetic powers and spells such as Tornado and Holy as well as a variation of her own Limit Break, Wishing Star, she utilizes the power of the Lunar Cry to conjure portals from the moon and separate the girls for a series of one-on-one brawls.
She also wields two fan-made weapons: a Gunblade named "Vanishing Star", and a Blaster Edge named "Silenced Tear". In both terms of fighting skill and magical ability, Rinoa is by far the most powerful Final Fantasy character in this series."

~Please see my journals for more details on the construction of this costume as well as progress photos~

The duster and arm warmers were made by FairyPorchQueen. They're hand-knitted and are gorgeous so I was happy to hear she was selling them. I altered the clasp at the front and unpicked the wings on the back.

The vest top, shorts, skirt and boots were bought then modified/altered.

The belt was made using parts of old belts covered in leatherette with the details painted on.

I straightened the wig, trimmed the fringe and added the auburn highlights.

I brought Squall's gunblade from Uniquities which I modified by spray painting black, adding the feather and engraving "Vanishing Star" on each side.

The pinwheel was made from scratch using foamboard. It rests on a small computer fan so spins when pushed. I want to buy a bigger fan with the power to spin it using a battery pack.

The wings are made of PVC pipes with feathers made from insulation foam. They are attached to a harness on my back underneath the duster.

The necklace and ring were re-used from my other Rinoa cosplays.

I've been toying with the idea of begging people to put a Dead Fantasy group together!

I know enough people have done the relevant costumes it's just getting everyone together and encouraging the rampant destruction of scenery..

I'm not aware of what dead fantasy is, but this looks like it'll be great.
Rinoa will be a force to be reckoned with. Especially if you factor in her sorceress powers and that crazy mutt of hers :D

The "mutt" would be Angelo lol but he doesn't make an appearance in DF, too dangerous for the poor thing methinks!
You should search youtube for "Dead Fantasy II" and all will be revealed ;)

Yeah that's what I love about DF, it really shows Rinoa to her full potential, she is a sorceress after all! The game didn't quite highlight her powers but in DF she kicks ass!

Main outfit minus belt (Posted 24th May 2012)

Complete- Duster and arm-warmers, top, skirt, shorts, boots, ring and chain, wig.
(Wig and necklace not in the photo)

The main outfit is now finished apart from the belt and I'm really pleased with how it's looking so far =)

Shorts, skirt & top- Complete (Posted 23rd May 2012)

How the finished items look together.

Skirt alterations (Posted 23rd May 2012)

I un-picked the yellow thread in the seam near the top of the waistline before shortening the hem with wonderweb. The top seam was still visible without the stitching and this bugged me so I folded it over and hid it inside the skirt. I allowed for this before raising the hem.
Rather than fuss about making the wrap skirt functional (it has a zip at the back hidden by the duster) I just folded over a bit of the fabric at the front and stitched it down using my machine to create a wrap effect. I purposely made the fold over-hang a bit at the end by not sewing it completly straight to help with this illusion. The buttons were hand sewn on, the DF version has brass ones not silver.

Base skirt (Posted 23rd May 2012)

I tried making a mini-skirt once and failed miserably. I didn't want that issue again so bought a base skirt to modify. I should be able to shorten it but keep the waistline intact so I know it will fit me properly.
The DF version of Rinoa does not have a marble effect skirt and the shade of blue is darker.

Shorts (Posted 23rd May 2012)

I tried once again to sew the zips into the shorts themselves to make them fuctional, this time I had hoped using my machine with a low tension setting might help but during my efforts decided I hate lycra lol I tested it out on my old shorts so didn't ruin these thankfully. So I went back to the popular method of sewing them direcly on top of the shorts to minimise bunching, this was done by hand whilst I was wearing them.
Checking the references later on I noticed on a zoomed in shot that her zips have a slight dark border around them as if hers had been placed on top also so hey it works!

Top progress (Posted 23rd May 2012)

Lace detailing being added to the vest top. I hand stitched it in place first then went over it with my machine to strengthen it.
I use a lycra vest top with my original Rinoa as the fabric seems similar to the shorts and it does in Dead Fantasy too but I didn't think the lace would look right against lycra somehow so I opted for cotton instead.

Boot alterations- Part 3 (Posted 22nd May 2012)

Eyelets and laces added to one boot. Glad they came out how I wanted! Now to do the other.

Boot alterations- Part 2 (Posted 22nd May 2012)

Started adding eyelets to the cuffs.

Boot alterations- Part 1-2 (Posted 22nd May 2012)

Both cuffs have now been re-attached in the correct position with the zips removed.

Wings progress 6 (Posted 22nd May 2012)

Spray painted the black gutter mesh white. This shall be used to help shape the wing and for the feathers to attach to. I didn't want the black showing through as the insulation foam I am using for the feathers is quite thin. I shall prob cover this with plain white fabric also.
