Celes Chere (Amano) - Final Fantasy VI

AyaCon 2013

Despite not having played through Final Fantasy VI for a loooong time, I remember always having liked Celes Chere, and when Sisceal started putting together a Terra cosplay, I told her I'd cosplay Celes with her, and soon afterwards she managed to rope Devil_Trigger in as Locke. I'm not a fan of how I look with blonde hair, but I'm always up for group cosplay!

The jacket, pants and sleeves are all made of a faux suede with a slight stretch to it, which was really nice to work with and sew. I lined the jacket with a pink brocade, and edged it and the sleeves with a patterned, pink bias binding - originally I'd planned to use brown, but I decided to use a patterned one to add a little more detail to the whole cosplay. I made a cape out of an ivory chiffon that is decorated with stars, and attached it to the shoulders of the jacket. There's a beaded trim along the bottom, which has felted beads on it that I really love.

The bodice is made of a purple and blue cotton that I found in the remnants section at a local fabric store, and after using some interfacing I lined it with plain white cotton. I hand-strung all of the white pearls that dangle on the front of the bodice, and I also hand-sewed all of the trims along the hems as well.

There are at least four scarves in the cosplay that I made out of different fabrics I found in the bargain bin of where I work! I edged each one with fringing in different colours. I really like the way they all look together.

I made a whole bunch of jewelry to wear, made with white and purple pearls, plus some really lovely beads and crystals that Sisceal bought for me. <3 I also made a hair scarf using a haircomb, fringed/beaded trims and more of the pearls that I used in my jewelry, and a piece of fabric that I bought to match the arm cape that features in Sisceal's Terra costume - it's a gradient-dyed net that has beads and glitter decorating it in floral patterns. I went with brown to match the overall colour scheme, and I'm pleased that I actually was able to use it because I wanted parts of my cosplay to tie in with Sisceal's.

The wig is from Coscraft, and the quality is lovely! I wasn't sure about it when I first put it on, but that was due to the colour rather than the wig itself - I don't think I suit blonde hair very much. Regardless, I styled it in a way that I was happy with it, and hopefully it looks alright.

The boots are re-used from my Giselle cosplay. I had originally planned to make bootcovers for them, but didn't like the way they turned out so I ditched them.

Finally, I wanted a prop - Sisceal has a red and yellow fan to represent Terra's Fire-casting abilities, so I made a matching fan using black-to-grey gradient fabric to represent Celes' Blizzard spells. I feel this is another feature of my cosplay that helps tie the overall look with Sisceal's Terra costume :)

Overall, I like the look of my Celes cosplay! I just hope it actually looks okay and not like a horrible mish-mash of various patterns and colours, haha!

So far I've made the cape, one scarf and the top for my Celes cosplay. Given that the cape and scarf aren't very exciting to look at while they're not attached to anything, here's a photo of my finished top. I also included a close up of the trims that I had to hand-stitch onto it. The pearls dangling were all hand-strung as well :)

I'm really happy with the way it's turned out, although I feel like it's missing something. I'm satisfied enough to call it complete, however, and I can always go back to it if I decide to add something else.
