Information

I hope to make the costume as close as I can to the screen costume.

Makeup test (pink and black) is not the real costume - it is just a quick swimsuit mock up to see if I can pull this off.

Sourcing latex to make the real costume, so far have enough black latex, a long black zipper for the front, and boots ..need to buy the yellow latex, and proper glue. Then I can start putting it all together.

I LOVE YOU.

Ranma1-2 posted on 7 March, 2009 - 00:52
^^ thought you'd like this one. I don't know how to join latex or even if it's possible so I'll just source the various parts and cut things down to make the ensemble. Looks like it doesn't have to cost the Earth either. And...at last, I can try my 'smokey eyes' makeup. I wonder if they'd let me wear this at Expo!?! ^^

Yaaaaaaaay! Youll be a fantastic Silk Spectre!

I'm really glad you're looking at using real latex for it. It's makes me overjoyed because there is a HUGE difference between what PVC and Latex look like. Also, they'll totally let you wear it. They let me wear Ivy :D Tab

Ranma1-2 posted on 7 March, 2009 - 11:43
Well, so I found latex glue on Eby and semi transparent yellow! so it is possible to do the costume in proper latex. Tab I so agree with you. I'm gonna try and make it look like the screen costume. ..its so tempting to start buying the stuff already! October Expo anybody? :D

Think of it as my ultimate tribute to her. :) Tab thanks for that - I hadn't in fact done any research yet so the link was very helpfull. I just watched the tuorials, wow. It looks so quick and easy! (Srsly thinking of ditching the PVC I bought and going with Rubber for my 'Returns' Pfeiffer Catwoman costume now. Luke, ^_^ this is what happens when I let my feminine side go completely free. ^^ you can do it too(..Lust shall also be amazing..) ^^ Mustn't get sidetracked though - other costumes to finish and wear before this one, which will likely be worn for October 09 Expo. But I'll add updates as I get more pieces for the costume...

Captain_Marvelous posted on 18 March, 2009 - 11:40
I do so hope ^.^ we really need to be going to the same convention at some point or other o_o I might not feel so bad crossplaying LOL *its astounding how many anime females you could do, you have the Generic female lead face :) your so lucky*

Ranma1-2 posted on 18 March, 2009 - 12:44
Adamoluna, thanks - I've been experimenting with makeup for a more sultry, mature woman /femme fatal look. I also did some contouring makeup which accents my cheek bones even more. Luke, you'll be fine - they'll LOVE you. Generic anime female face? ..well maybe some of the villains... But I can't do 'sweet and innocent' or young, at all! Basically I can't do 'Girl'. So I'm sticking to 'Mature Woman'. But that's plenty to keep me going. ^^

Captain_Marvelous posted on 18 March, 2009 - 12:50
And im sure it will keep the rest of us going also ^.^ LOL any ideas when this will be finished? and luckily I have my friend neverbell on here ^^ she is amazing at makeup :P *in return i give fashion tips I suppose but she is my crossplay go to girl*

Ranma1-2 posted on 1 April, 2009 - 12:20
lols ha ha ha, you guys make me laugh! :P Well the plan is to wear the finished costume to London Expo in October, because May Expo cosplay plans are already in motion. But I am working on the cos already so as I get further along I'll give you some sneek peeks.. eg currently sourcing a latex swimsuit to cut down, and I've found somewhere that sells semi-opaque yellow latex sheet. ;) btw, Umm - have I missed Watchmen at the cinema? I don't remember it coming around. Although the premierre has been shown in London. Are we still waiting for it to hit our cinemas? (or have I been walking around with my eyes closed?)

Ranma1-2 posted on 10 April, 2009 - 23:33
Thankies. ^^ Darn it.. I just got 'lightning Hammered' on eB for a black latex swimsuit that would have been Perfect. \__/ Ah well the search goes on...

Captain_Marvelous posted on 2 May, 2009 - 10:48
Lightning hammer? is that from tales of eternia....sorry spaced out for a mo then, i just got through seeing this film :P whilst it wasnt mega awesome I thought silk specter looked the best ^.^ I keep commenting but please keep at it :) cant wait to see result :)

Ranma1-2 posted on 2 May, 2009 - 11:12
:D ..no, "lightning hammer" is one of those software programs that make people win at auctions like on eB - you know when someone comes in about a millisecond before the time runs out, and swipes your bargain away with no time to re-bid.

Captain_Marvelous posted on 3 May, 2009 - 01:32
awesome ^^ im assuming my lightning hammer....well it just wouldnt do in that situation ^^

Ranma1-2 posted on 4 May, 2009 - 00:40
Ahh that swimsuit doesn't matter anymore, cos I just scooped a latex mindress. :P Great that means I have enough black latex to cut down and make all the black arts. Now all I need is to get the yellow latex. This might be an October debut... :P

I love meeting other cosplayers. :) Next event I'm at is London Film & Comic Con in July (cosplaying Zatanna), and then London Expo in Oct should have Silk Spectre II and Sailor Galaxia ready. Then in november I will be doing Memorabilia show at Birmingham NEC as Memorabilia girl. Hopefully Midland Expo will be on again next year in Feb, poss Kazami Mizuho for that. Def come and say hi if you see me at any time. ^__^

Ranma1-2 posted on 26 August, 2009 - 12:32
Just to let you all know..this is def not going to happen for this Oct Expo. It's too near now and I still haven't got the yellow latex yet. Sorry.

k4tt posted on 26 August, 2009 - 12:36
:( such a shame. I was looking forward to seeing this. You swapping it for May Expo costume?

KhaosKreator posted on 26 August, 2009 - 12:48
Hi Steve, Matt's said he'd be nightowl and wear this with you. I want to be ozymantis. You game at at all? We'd only really be able to do this after oct expo because we've all got costume plans for then. -Tab

Ranma1-2 posted on 31 August, 2009 - 23:05
(..just back from a long weekend away..) K4tt - yeah next May seems likely. I really want to do this but I just know it's improbable for Oct. Next May is a better target for me to aim for. I really want the costume to be good and I know I need more time to do it the way I want. Tab - oh wow that sounds grrrreat! Yep 2010 for SSII, count me IN. :D I also think I have my cosplay plans finally sorted for Oct now, and I'm happy with what's to come. :)

Yamidragon posted on 23 September, 2010 - 04:24
im astounded at the legs- they go on forever! you totally pull this cosplay off- awesome

Ranma1-2 posted on 23 September, 2010 - 10:48
The legs! Ha ha ha ha, Thanks ^_^ I've got most of the parts I need to make the costume now, but still need to get the semi-transparent yellow latex. I also did some experimenting with adhesives and discovered the cheap one I was hoping to use doesn't stick the latex securely enough, so I need to buy the expensive stuff. It's a shame this costume has been waiting for so long.. I will aim at May 2011 now, before anything else fills those Expo slots up.

Ranma1-2 posted on 29 January, 2011 - 23:42
Thanks guys. :) Ive found where to get small quantities of the strong type proper adhesive.. I just have to order that and some yellow latex sheet. I think its game on for May. Redheadgirl - absolutely some kick ass posing. ^_^ Ryuk - Sexual costume.. hmm yes. My long leather coat is gonna be my comfort coat that I run to if the attention gets too much walking around Expo. Cant wait to do the cosplay on stage though. I shall oooze sexiness. :P Watchmen group shall rock!

Progress Journal

Liquid Latex as Adhesive - experiments (Posted 23rd September 2010)

No pics - but I did some experiments sticking scraps of latex together.

I read somewhere that liquid latex can be used as an adhesive. Sounds good in thoery. However this is what I discovered..

I used standard milky off white looking liquid latex. I applied it onto the latex scraps and pressed firmly. I left the samples overnight to completely dry. Next day the pieces did appear to be glued together. So I went on to do some stress tests on the bond.

First thing I noticed was the two latex pieces still looked like two distinct seperate pieces that had been glued together - as opposed to a manufactured latex garment seam which looks like the two pieces have fused togehter into one.
Streatching the sample pieces the join held, but not convincingly enough for say a main crotch seam where there will be a lot of stress on a small area. I found that I could pick the corner of the sample and peel the two layers completely apart with alarming ease. Obviously the liquid latex hadn't bonded irreversably to the latex sheet!

Conclusion: Using liquid latex as an adhesive for latex sheet works like a contact adhesive - it bonds to the two surfaces and holds the two piecess togeher, the mechanical streangth of the seam is limited by the strength of the liquid latex gripping onto the latex sheet. Larger surface areas will have more strength. But small surface areas or areas under a lot of stress are prone to fail! Also there is a small 'step' produced at the seam where the two pieces of latex are layered together.

Solvent based adhesive: Seems to work more like a welding process. The adhesive seems to temporarily melt the two latex pieces enough to fuse them together into one as firm pressure is applied. Result - seams made using this adhesive are virtually unbreakable, and.. almost invisible as there is no 'step' because the two pieces fuse into one.

Ankle boots (Posted 12th November 2009)

Just snagged these ankle boots off eby for £3.00 ^^ I love a bargain!
They are more accurate than the shoes I have on in the makeup test shots.
I shall cut these down and chromify the heels and toecaps ..somehow.. tbc ^_^

2 May 09 - more latex (Posted 2nd May 2009)

Just snagged a latex dress off eB nice and cheap (Like 7.50 cheap)

There is enough material in it to cut down and make the black swimsuit part of the costume. ..I know - I'm SO CHEAP!! :P

Got the latex arm gloves too. I Just need the yellow latex stuff now.

18 March 09 - Latex stockings test run. (Posted 18th March 2009)

Latex Stockings arrived today and I just HAD to try them out. Well. It was not easy geting into them at first cos even with talc powder they don't slide along the skin. But I eventually discovered a way to get em on. Phew!
These Latex stockings were only around the £10 mark off e-bay, a lot less then the £125 for Latex boots I saw, and coupled with a pair of patent shoes I'm sure they will look every bit as good. I haven't bought the oil which will make the latex glossy yet as I will be cutting and glueing and I want the glue to stick properly. But the makeup test is giving me a good idea what the costume will look like on me. Wow! I'm liking the look of this A LOT. ^^
