Jake Muller (China) - Resident Evil 6

Costume based on instructions from Numta!

Albert Wesker's secret offspring and Sherry Birkin's partner, Jake Muller is a difficult man to be around...
But he can handle himself in a fight, and his blood can save the world for fifty million dollars a pint...
If Neo-Umbrella and their new B.O.W -Ustanak- don't get him first.

After several MCMs of wearing costumes that were uncomfortable or unwieldy, it's going to be a nice change to wear essentially civilian clothes. I'm looking forward to my first use of rigid Collodion, as initial tests have been very positive. The major experiments surrounding this costume are gonna be to do with getting to grips with the basics of stage makeup, and hopefully that'll be something that pays off in the future.

Post-Con Update: Okay, so the makeup went great, the costume was generally really good and I had only one major malfunction- one of the brace sections I'd re-done snapped and I had to fix it with tape. There's small repairs to be done there before the next time I wear it, I feel~

Post-Con Thoughts

Okay, so, that was amazing. I've never been part of a group cosplay, and never been part of a photoshoot before! I didn't get to do some of the stuff I wanted to do (get my Mass Effect signed, catch up with a few friends) but I got to spend three hours getting my photo taken with the other Resident Evil cosplayers and met some great new people! I even ended up on the Capcom UK Facebook page, how cool is that?

Major things I learnt from this MCM:
1. Fiddling with my makeup once it's already set is generally not a good idea, so I need to be very careful with it. People were generally impressed with it though, so that's definitely a positive.
2. The costume is a cruel mistress, and just because she breaks before you leave the house is no guarantee she won't break again at the service station. I managed to repair it with sellotape, paperclips and Moonlighthope28's tiny hands, but I need to look at a more permanent solution before I wear it next.
3. You can take three batteries with you, but if your phone suddenly stops working that was just a waste of effort. I don't really know how to correct this one.
4. There are still a few minor tweaks I want to do for future wearing- a better leather leg-strap for the holster is definitely one of them, as are straps for the jacket and boots. Just the few minor touches that will come after repairing the braces and should finally put me up to 100%.

One Last Bullet

So the new braces arrived, and they're amazing, but I need to do some re-stitching to wear them in the style Jake does. This isn't a problem and should be done Saturday. Makeup continues to go well, all other costume elements are complete and I found a bit of down time to build some First Aid Spray props. All in all, things are looking up! Now if I can just survive the week...

Continued Makeup Testing

So I had a quick test today with the Collodion (wore it to work, most of the staff didn't notice but the students did, go figure!) and it survived eating (it was ten layers this time). The major problem is the edges went white, but I'm thinking there are several possible reasons for this.
1a. My skin wasn't dry enough when I applied it.
1b. My solution to this is to make sure I leave more time between exfoliating and moisturising and then applying the collodion on the day.
2a. I didn't let the Collodion dry enough between layers.
2b. My solution to this is to make sure I allow each layer to dry before applying the next one.
3a. I need to use some kind of foundation to ensure it keeps its colour.
3b. My solution to this is to grab a simple foundation for the edges.
4a. The brush that comes with the collodion isn't good enough.
4b. My solution to this is to get a new brush. I'll only need to use it once, maybe twice, but it's worth it having come this far.
Essentially, the things I have learnt from this test are fairly obvious in hindsight, but should allow me to have all the understanding and experience I need in time for the event itself.

Finishing Touches

This morning, for the first time in my life, I exfoliated and moisturised. After three weeks of this I should be in a position to make a really convincing scar with the Collodion. I figure I'll give it two weeks from today before I do another makeup test, just to be sure, but other than that everything is perfect. The jacket has been sewn and adjusted but is currently at my sister's, and I have no idea where I've left the gloves, but all my other preparations and accessories are sorted perfectly.
