Momohime - Muramasa:The Demon Blade

Amecon 2012

As much as I love Torahime I don't fancy making tonnes of samurai armour and a demon horse so peach princess it is :)

Progress Journal

17th July 2012

I hate armour

but its getting there slowly. I don't really have the time to make it perfect but happy ish so far and i'm pleased i've managed to lace it together properly

the arm ones will be done in a similar way and will be held in place with magnets so that i don't damage the kimono

31st May 2012

So this costume is now a financial black hole....

the more i looked at the kimono the more i hated it, so I've started again and bought some silk satin (i'm using the reverse side) and dyed it myself (taking advantage of having my lovely big workshop to make a mess in!)

I used the dylon hand dye in powder pink with a touch of yellow thrown in to take the sugary pinkness down a little (it's still come up a little pinker than i would have liked though) and the yellow for the gradient has come up very pale but i like it. it will be lined with some white silk crepe i had from last time.

Tomorrow i'll be over painting the flowers, really really hoping it retains the fluidity it has at the moment

11th February 2012

nearly rage quit . . .

Bleaching didn't work and neither did my back up plan co i'm going to be faking the gradient- i.e. sticking yellow silk on the end of the sleeve and hiding the seam.

Started making the flowers for the sleeves, to try and avoid any more disasters i'm doing them separately, and will appliqué them on, not happy with the big one at the mo but it was the first go and it's aaaaaaaages since i've painted anything freehand :p

24th January 2012

Happened to be in shepherd bush and happened to find myself in goldhawk road . . .

Found the rest of the fabric I needed so decided to crack on with the bow. flowers applied with a stencil and fabric paint, main obi and the bow are stiffened with buckram,

21st January 2012

I'm way over budget on this one now D: but it might be the last over complicated one i do . . .

Found some gorgeous real silk crepe de chine in a perfect colour and a little 5 min bleach test looks like it will work with bleach to do the gradient on the sleeves :D

21st October 2011

wig done :D

ponytail clips came and the clips where enormous so took the wig off the clips and tied them around the bunches (which i'd twisted into buns)
Much happier with it now

13th October 2011

slow progress is slow

ok got my wig from arda but i just cant make it work, so I've now ordered some clip on ponytails too. It's not going to be as lovely as i want I'm sure

Started glueing my paper blossoms onto combs too

still not bought any fabric yet . . .

5th September 2011

Wig fail & shopping

Ok so trying to use my lovely long heat resistant wig was fine until the weight of the length of the hair meant it all started dropping after the first try on :(

So ordered a back parted wig from Arda, with the intention of pulling the pigtails closer and waving them.

Ordered some waraji sandals and some tabi too
