Caldeum Nobility - Diablo 3

Amecon 2010

Showcased 21st February 2016 What is this?

My first big prop! ^^
Although it's not out yet I couldn't resist doing this one when I spotted her online!

The tabbard, top skirt and base dress is a silk jersey with silk dupion sleeves. The detailing on the sleeves in the image meant the dupion was ideal to get the lines without having to do separate strips all the way down.

The coat, belt and cape are both made from silk dupion, which was a dream to work with. All the black triangles were individually made and biased before being sewn on. The pattern on the cape was designed by montblanc as there is no back ref images at all! <3 The belt loops are buckles with the centre cut out and cut in half for the larger ones.

The corset is velvet with a dupion lining for strength. It has a lace up back similar to bridal corsets with loops rather than eyelets. The pattern on the front was done using bias as there was no bronze ribbon that matched the bias.

The hat wass quite a challenge simply for the cap style base. In the end it was made from lycra simply because it was the easiest possible way to make a close fitting base. The cones are plastizote covered in dupion and biased. There's around 3 packs of extensions to each braid which is still not as thick as I'd like them to be. It's all held together with a hell of a lot of hot glue!

The staff is originally a broom stick built up with newspaper. It was then covered in PVA papermache and then coated with a thick mix of jesmonite. It's a water based resin which means no fumes and brushing on the thicker mix gave a wonderful wooden texture. It was coloured with two ink washes rather than paint as not only give a better colour but it also showed the texture more.

The pendant of the choker, armour, sleeve stars and tabbard detail are also all plastizote covered in jesmonite then painted.

There's just one more thing I'd like to add to this costume and that's the lights which will be added in later in the year.
