Wonder Woman (Alex Ross ) - DC

Information

So, I was going to make the boots, but I treated myself instead. Oops

The head piece , breast plate and arm bands are made by my lovely Boyfriend with thermo plastic, shaped and painted. That took a while to get used to :)

The corset is also home made, my first attempt. I'm really please with it and the next one I make will be even better.

It won't win any prizes, but it was great fun wearing it, probably the "bravest" costume I'll ever do! It'll get a makeover and come out to play again :)

Updated for spring memorabilia.

New Belt and pants. This is more in the spirit of Alex Ross's WW than the cartoon, so O changed the icon to reflect that.

The corset has been retouched and an open ended zip has replaced the hooks & eyes. Much more comfy :p

Captain_Marvelous posted on 29 May, 2010 - 02:12
Well if you end up doing it for LFCC your more than welcome to be in our DC group :) Steve *ranma1/2* is in it doing Star Sapphire :P but theres a thread on the cosplay forum if your intrested :) either way cant wait to see it!

Wyrdsister posted on 29 May, 2010 - 10:33
Thank you on both counts...I don't know if I will make it to LFCC...I've never been...If I did, I'd be more than happy to join your group though :)

Oh wow! I can't wait to see this. I'm sure you'll do an amazing job.

Captain_Marvelous posted on 3 June, 2010 - 01:33
Hate to comment again but in my not so inconsiderable knowledge of DC and Spandex costumes, your figure suits it very nicely, I look forward to seeing more :)

Ranma1-2 posted on 28 July, 2010 - 13:50
'Can you pull off this type of costume'?? - absolutley! Go for it Steph. I LOVE WW. I'm sure you will look abs Fab! ..I didn't make it to LFCC in the end. Maybe by the time you want to wear this I will have a DC cos finished too. ;)

Wyrdsister posted on 29 July, 2010 - 01:48
Thanks hun, I am going for it "-" I'm going to try your Lycra boot cover technique for the boots, as I really don't like the gogo platforms you can buy on ebay. I have a new dress form (birthday present!) and all the fabric, boning and threads ready. I just need the Foamalux for the arm & head bands. I don't need a wig (yeah!) so I'm good to go.

Sephirayne posted on 29 July, 2010 - 17:31
I defo think you can pull off this costume. You have a very lovely set of legs there.

Ranma1-2 posted on 3 August, 2010 - 12:04
Great. :) Sounds like you have all the know how to put this together really well. You are such a talented costume maker. (I wish I knew corsetry :/ ..guess I'll just have to dive in the deep end someday) *goes off to Google "Foamalux" * ^_^

Inuyoku posted on 19 September, 2010 - 12:58
Look forward to seeing this at Memorabilia if your doing it on the Sunday :) I'll be a Dc villian so would defo have to get a photo :)

Captain_Marvelous posted on 7 November, 2010 - 13:57
Saw a great chest/belt armor tutorial on the League of Heroes if you need any help! :) though it depends what version of wonder woman your doing :)

Wyrdsister posted on 7 November, 2010 - 14:02
Link? I think I'm going for the spirit of truth ww, but anything is useful :)

Captain_Marvelous posted on 7 November, 2010 - 14:08
Ah yeah the armored one ^.- its essentially using plasticard to cut the armor out and heat gun it into place. then just buy metalic back plastic and neatly cover it, paper pattern it first obvs but yeah thats essentially it, ive been using the same techniquie and im very happy with it :) *sorry the links not working, I think you have to be a member of the forum* XD

Wyrdsister posted on 8 November, 2010 - 02:30
hehe, I'll be using thermo plastic as it happens :p

DAT ASS!

Ranma1-2 posted on 8 November, 2010 - 12:03
Wow those pants look really profesh..how do you do your leg hole hems? they look so flat..mine always look bumpy. Did you sew knicker elastic into them? btw your btm look fine to me ^_^

Wyrdsister posted on 8 November, 2010 - 13:14
Thanks :) Steve, I think I got lucky with the fabric and the pattern I made, I had to do it about three timesand it was all bumpy before as well, I didn't use elastic though, but the seams are rolled hem I don't have a stretch stitch on my machine, so I used the smallest zig zag stich I have. The waist is satill bumpy, but you can't see it when I wear them :p

Ranma1-2 posted on 8 November, 2010 - 13:36
Thanks, so is that what you literally do, ie roll the hem into like a suasage and then stitch it flat through the sewing machine?

Wyrdsister posted on 9 November, 2010 - 02:54
Pretty much, you fold the fabric twice in the same direction, and sew flat. You can get a thin "proper" rolled hem with a special foot on your machine, I've not tried it with the Lycra though :P I did baste it first to stop the lycra moving too much.

Inuyoku posted on 9 November, 2010 - 02:56
Are you still planning on wearing this to Memorabilia, if so which day, love to get a photo with you :D

Wyrdsister posted on 9 November, 2010 - 03:29
I should be going both days, I think I'll wear ww on Sunday :)

Inuyoku posted on 9 November, 2010 - 03:51
Works for me im only going on sunday as harley so I will look out for you :D

Ranma1-2 posted on 9 November, 2010 - 11:57
Aha thanks Steph. I will investigate those special presser foot attatchments at my sewing machine shop. If that works using zig-zag stitch it might be the nearest thing to getting a serger type finish on lycra (ie thin, tidy, expandable hems). ^_^ Sunday for WW - I will look out for you then. :)

Captain_Marvelous posted on 9 November, 2010 - 13:27
I agree with Ryaoki ^.-

Ranma1-2 posted on 12 November, 2010 - 01:13
Aaarggh! Sun I will not be able to come to Memro after all - will be down in Bath all day. Hate it when things clash on the same day! I hope you get some good pics. ..Make sure to take your camera and get lots of shots, then you can pick which ones you like the best and stick em up. ^_^

Ranma1-2 posted on 12 November, 2010 - 01:27
btw I'm lovin the shape of your bodice wip. That is a great pattern and Totally fits you. :)

Wyrdsister posted on 12 November, 2010 - 13:48

Sephirayne posted on 22 November, 2010 - 02:56
Looking incredible hun. Brilliant WW. ;)

Ranma1-2 posted on 22 November, 2010 - 11:18
You are a star. ^_^ I'm guessing you ran out of time to do the perfect job..that happens to me a lot when certain things take a lot longer than I planned and I even end up sometimes with stuff literally held together by safety pins, just to wear it for the intended con. eg My Zatanna, never truly got finished like I envisaged, and its still waiting cuz it deserves to made like my original vision for it. I'm sure you want to redo some of the parts of WW cos for that same reason. And then wear it again..so I can see it next time! :) Q How do you put your bracelets on? they look seamless.

Wyrdsister posted on 22 November, 2010 - 13:29
I need to adjust the breast plate, it's too curvy for my cleavage :p I need to make a new belt out of the Plastic, I also need to get some better fabric for the pants I found some online which is a swimwear fabric, blue with white stars on! The Armbands are held on with tention? they're made of plastic, they're bendy enough for me to put my arms through :) I will take some pics for you.

Captain_Marvelous posted on 22 November, 2010 - 14:23
Apreciating the Alex Ross respect! you look very similar to the Kingdom Come WW :) Really suits you! I would be proud to get a pic with you when im Superman!

Wyrdsister posted on 23 November, 2010 - 03:04
Thanks Luke, I hope we get a chance to meet on a DC day :) I plan to make improvements and wear it again !

Oh my GOSH! New pants are AWESOME! *__* Hope you dont mind me saying Steph but you have such a sexy shape! Yes you do! You look FABulous in these WW pants. ^_^ Honestlty this costume is looking really professional. I esp admire your leg hole hems, they are so neeeeeat. * T_T wishes I could do leg holes this good! *

Wyrdsister posted on 29 March, 2011 - 02:08
Aww Thanks Steve! That's so nice! The working out of the pants took weeks, but I now have a pattern that works for me and the new pants took under 2 hours to make :) (You can have it if you want) and the finish is a rolled hem. I baste it first and then use the smallest zigzag on my machine as I don't have a stretch stitch.

Ranma1-2 posted on 30 March, 2011 - 01:16
I can believe that. I just spent a whole day making the pattern for my Star Maker shorts! Didnt realise these would be so hard to do. :S Im not sure if your pattern will fit me cuz I dont have womanly hips like you, but I dont mind trying. :) Oh.. Ahhhhh.. rolled hem! I have bought one of those rolled hem attachments recently. Just havent got round to road testing it yet. But I am slowly making friends with stretch lycra - I just discovered the stitch length setting S.S on my machine and when I set it to this during stretch stitch it is working without skipping stitches. *__*
