In Progress

Information

As much as I'd like to do to this for October 2010, it's looking more like next year

Edit: Gonna try this one for the Sunday if I can get it finished.

Edit 13-12-2010 As this is most likely to be a Friday/Sunday cosplay, we've decided that Miruru will cosplay this Hardsuit, and I'll be making a Priss Hardsuit for myself. This way, we'll both have something to cosplay. I'll still be building both Hardsuits.

Edit 11/03/2011: Due to work commitments, there's a good chance that I won't be able to attend any Cons/Expos this year. I'll continue to make this and the other Hardsuits, so perhaps I may still be able to take some completed photos as and when.
Apologies for those who were looking forward to this. :(

I remember watching this a few years ago. It was my friend's though. I must get it myself when I can afford it! Good luck with this.

Hey, Thanks ^__^ i think that recently, I've been concentration on the Gundam, but it's given me some experience as to what I can and can't do with the materials I have. I'll be building this one differently, and will hopefully be a better construction.

You know, it would be GREAT if you could. Maybe we can try to get a couple of people to do Priss and Sylvia's Hardsuits, and perhaps a Boomer ^__^ I feel a future BGC masq group coming along ;)

Rik > Yah. I've been a fan of BGC since the beginning, so I'm happy that I'm finally able to make the suits ^__^ Steve > Thanks ^__^ I'm actually surprised how nice it's come out so far. I still need to get all the details done, but the base is all there. I'll add the Priss Hardsuit once I've made the same progress :) theKillingDoll > Cheers. and Niiiiice!! Can't wait to see progress on your Priss. Nene is my fave out of all the Sabers, but this Hardsuit will actually be for my wife (I'm making it so that it will fit either of us, so that I can wear it at a later date) I'm also making Priss's Hardsuit alongside this one, but won't be adding it to my costume list until i've got the torso right.

Yeah Priss hardsuit, I was wondering why you hadnt put that up yet. :) So I see you are aiming for May Expo. Im looking forward to seeing these. The construction looks comfy to wear ..upholstery foam? Are you going to give them some sort of solid coating, or latex paint??

k4tt posted on 14 December, 2010 - 18:33
Got some real progress on my Priss now, so I'll add that tonight or tomorrow. The main construction is made from interlocking EVA floor mats. Larger versions of the alphabet play mats, and the kind of thing you might find in a gym, or dojo perhaps. Extra details/reinforcements will be made using standard craft foam, and I'll probably use PVA glue, or some clay of some sort to fill in the gaps etc. The EVA foam CAN be sanded down as well, which is useful for edges etc. I haven't thought about what paint to use yet. I wanted to give them a solid coating, like a PVC fabric, but it's too late to do that now. Can latex paint be applied through a spray gun/compressor? or does it have to be painted on?

Oh the floormat stuff, I see. Wow seems to be working out really well. Latex - I dont know if it can be sprayed through an air gun. I would be very surprised if it can. But there is a trick to painting it on and getting a smooth finish. Alyx painted her foam Lekku and got a great finish. One of the tricks is to mix the latex 50/50 with acrylic paint..it seems to thnn it down so ends up smoother finish. The applicator also makes a big difference. Ive just ordered some paint on liquid latex and it says it comes with a special sponge applicator. I will let you know how I get on.

Not Cosplaying this year

Helmet Progress - Template Worn by Miruru

Since I'm not actually going to be the one wearing this Helmet, I had to make sure that it fits the one who does - Miruru.
Needless to say, the template is a perfect fit. And naturally, I'm hoping that the final EVA helmet should be an even better fit.

Helmet Progress

Taken about 2-3 hours. This is the base template that I will be cutting up and applying to the thicker EVA Foam mats.
Used about 3-4 A4 sheets of funky foam. 2 sheets for the main top part of the helmet, and 2 cut up sheets for the sides and chin guard.
The drawn-in "ear muff" sections are not entirely accurate, so I'll be re drawing those when I start working on the EVA foam.

Right Arm with Torso

Also made the torso as well. It's in three parts (you can see the sections)
I've been using EVA Foam Interlocking Mats for the build so far. Everything is heat formed and hotglued together.
Again, photoshopped to blur out the messy background.

Right Arm

Started working on this last week, so I thought I might as well put some progress pictures up.
