Eowyn (Eowyn as Durnhelm) - Lord of The Rings - Return of the King

Information

This is my favourite costume and the third one I made. I am fortunate that my partner makes armour as a hobby and helped with the helmet and shield. He raised the shield boss from flat. He aslo helped with embossing the leather as we were running out of time.

I got the leather really cheaply at a closing down sale so all the leather elements ( helmet, belt body armour and vambraces came in under £20, and I have much left over for other projects.

I also got lucky with the mail, It cost £30 and came as a long strip and started life as a shop display. I took it to bits and made the tailored hauberk. It's realy heavy to wear though at 7 kilos, so I'm remaking it outof plastic, in the Weta tradition. Making the original butted mail too about 3 months, I'm guessing the plastic one will take about the same, but I plan to use it for my Gil-Galad costume, with is in the planing stages.

I sculpted the sword out of plasticine and casted it in resine. It was a rush job over a weekend to get it ready on time and it could be better, so I'd like to make a new sword at some point but no rush.

This is the most authentic looking costume I have made. I was fortunate to meet the guys from Weta who designed and made the original. They said it could have walked off the set... It's not the most flamboyant but like I said, my favorite costume.
