Lord of Darkness - Legend

An ambitiouse mask project, seems to be coming along quite well now but it's my first attempt at a full fitted latex headmask so we will see if it actual works or not in a couple of days!

Legend is a classic fantasy film set in an enchanted forest, and the big D impressively charismatic for a large horned deamon with a butt-chin. Wearing him to the Ball will be rather in character.....

Simply amazing.

KhaosKreator posted on 26 November, 2009 - 16:22
What supports the horns to the head? I'm assuming that there's something under the plastacine as that will be removed when you peel it from the mould. -Tab

Ilpala posted on 26 November, 2009 - 16:51
Thanks guys :) Tab: The horns are carved foam inners that are made to be flush to my head. I'm anticipating haveing to pad them abit where the plastercine was and then latex them in, on the inside. They might need more support, hope I don't get droopy horns........ guess I'll find out tonight! >_<

Zaiburst posted on 26 November, 2009 - 17:32
Wow, amazing. Darkness is most definitely the best thing about Legend (Mia Sara coming in second ;) ) You've done a great job on the head piece. I've seen expensive rubber head pieces in costume shops, and this seems to be even better than those. Body looks super too. Good work.

BlusterSquall posted on 26 November, 2009 - 18:04
You never cease to amaze! This will be something amazing to see!!

KhaosKreator posted on 27 November, 2009 - 10:38
ooh, I never thought of using silicone to sculpt muscles! Was the setting time alright for it? For me it always takes a good 24 hours. -Tab

Ilpala posted on 27 November, 2009 - 12:37
*cough* I gave it about 6 hours.... It was touch dry but won't have fully cured (and probably never will since it's sealed in rubber now) Figured it wasn't too much of an issue if the edges of the muscles where slightly squishy :P

drowned_panda posted on 27 November, 2009 - 14:35
Dare I say it ..... LEGEND! This will surely be one of the stand-out cosplays at the Ball. It is quite a unique cosplay.

I do hope you'll wear this again after the ball, its too impressive to wear the once! (Happy Birthday to you also).

This is defo one of my fav costumes of the year. You really have done an epic job. I would love to know more on how to do the body as I'm struggling to figure out a way to do my Safer Sephiroth body so that it can hold the wight of the rings and black wing. I thought the way you did the muscles is the best way to go. That is if you don't mind telling me how you did it. Thankies XXX

Progress Journal

27th November 2009

Had the grand unpealing last night, and the mask works, looks better than I expected. I'll add some shading tonight and pick up the face paint and contacts today.

Decided I wasn't happy with the body so took a tube of silicon sealant to it, to smooth the edges of the muscles into the body suit more. looks a bit better now.

Finally found my missing patern too, so i've made the base cloak/waistcoat thing and Leena took great pleasure in distressing it a bit.

Darkness shall go to the Ball!

26th November 2009

2 evenings to go

Mask is pretty much done now. Body suit... i'm a little dissapointed with - should have made the foam detail much thinner as I don't have the time to build up enough layers of latex to conceal it's blockyness.

Clawed hands have been made too. marigolds + fake nails + flexible filler + latex ftw!

managed to buy even more stuff for the cloak (netting and spangly stuff), and loose the pattern I need. Will ahve a crack atr it tonight though

25th November 2009

Progress is good.
Head requires a final couple of layers of latex and looks.....better than expected (holding my breath until it's taken off it's sculpt though)

I've also made the body suit and added muscle deffinition with thin carved upholstery foam - latexing that tonight.

I picked up materials for this clothes on Monday to, got a bit carried away. cotton, flocked Organza, fur and various patterned stuff. spent rather more than intended... >_<
