Princess Sally Acorn (SatAM/Archie Comics) - Sonic the Hedgehog

I plan on making a fursuit of a character I've always loved since I was a child.

Princess Sally is a strong willed, likeable and funny character, and she's clever and smart too. I hope I have the brains, skills and patience to pull this one off! I've never seen a Sally fursuit done before.

If you are doing it on the Sunday though, I'd love to join! @wilterdrose Thank you! It's hard work but seeing the finished product will make it all worth the while!

Adorable!! ^__^ I like your construction techniques too. So are the black parts of the eyes actually holes still??'s a brilliant solution to the problem of seeing through a costume head like this. :)

Berserk667 posted on 19 March, 2010 - 03:12
nicely done :) the head/ face looks really good

donnamevans posted on 19 March, 2010 - 09:08
@Ranma1-2 thank you very much! I kind of made my own sort of construction up really, as I can't really afford expensive materials. the eyes are made of a ring of super sculpey with a small piece blackened voile in the centre. by blackened, I mean I coloured it with a permanent marker, as it's the pink material I used for Sudowoodo's mouth. it's great to see out of, but you can't see in!

Ranma1-2 posted on 19 March, 2010 - 22:27
You sound a lot like me, friends say I'm cheap! :P ..Well I like to make my costumes nice and economic. :) Once again, it's very effective. I hope I see you at Expo, I'll sure wanna grab you for some photo's if I do. ^__^ So I need to ask you one thing you have a plan to keep cool? (Bearing in mind Expo is in May! and it always roasting in there.)

donnamevans posted on 21 March, 2010 - 17:18
@Ranma1-2 I don't really have a "keeping cool" plan! But I can take off my head pretty easily and there's a zip in the back out of outfit, so I can always strip if I get too warm! XD At least it's a bit better than Sudowoodo. Thats a complete nightmware to keep cool in! I might buy a couple of cans of that MagiCool stuff I can spray into my costume to keep me cool!

New pics - looks totally cuddle-able. ^_^ Oh, spare a thought for Lunar_kitten too, who is doing Paddington Bear for Expo. @_@ Continental quilt for body padding + Fur suit + hat + duffle coat + wellington boots! I think she will melt into little puddles inside those wellington boots. ^_^ Aww you guys, paying the price to do fursuit cosplays. You are awesome.

donnamevans posted on 6 April, 2010 - 20:58
@wilterdrose Daw! Thank you hun! Yes the head is pretty heavy. I still haven't had the change to weigh it yet. I'm testing it out this weekend at a Manchester minimeet of furries!

@sjbonnar thank you so much! I do look foward to wearing it....but kind of not, if you know what I mean!

We met at LFCC. I asked you all about how you put Sally together and we tried and failed to enter the three legged race! Great to meet you!

Refira posted on 23 January, 2011 - 23:15
Yay! Sally! <3 I've never seen a cosplay of her before... Or any other SatAM characters to be honest... so it really is awesome to see this. And you even have Nicole! Shame I didn't get to see this in person. :) Great work. ^^

donnamevans posted on 30 January, 2011 - 19:53
Thank you Refira! No I haven't seen anyone in the UK do anything like this before either, or even in the States for that matter. I was planning on doing NICOLE in Lynx form this year, but I might have to see if I get to sell Sally first.

Progress Journal

5th April 2010

Um, she's finished...with all bells and whistles!

That is all :P

3rd April 2010

OMG she has teh clothes! XD

Good Friday I worked on making boot covers and a jacket.
I bought the most wonderful turquoise cotton for her jacket and it was easier to sew than the previous material I had bought. Not only that, it looks nicer too.
The boot covers were also easier than I thought, and using T-shirt material was great as it stretches and takes shape of the boot.

Now I have to make her a mouth, finish a tiny bit of furring on her head, make the head fitting right, and then have a go at making her computer Nicole.

18th March 2010

A lot happened last night on my Sally costume!

Apart from cursing every time I burnt my fingers on my glue gun (owwwwch...) I managed to get all of the fur on her head.
It's weighing an awful lot right now, so wearing it will be somewhat of a challenge! But I'm all up for it XD

The furring was easier than I thought, though I found the hair a little tricky to do. With it being so "built up" that's probably what's added to the weight of it overall.

Now to finish the last part of furring and do the eyes and nose. Once they're sculpted and painted, I can add them to the costume.

Then it's onto the clothes, the boots and jacket, and NICOLE, which I have no idea how to do yet. I was going to use a mobile phone, but it may be a tad on the small side now.

14th March 2010

Major head progress!

Well, the head is getting there. I was pondering for a time how on earth I would do all of the hair, but I decided to build it up in paper and cover it in fur.

After some major papier mache work today, all I have to do now is leave it to dry and then start adding the fur

1st March 2010

Body suit is done!!

Yep, the body suit is pretty much completed!
That's been a real shock for me to have completed it so quickly.

The belly fur has been added, and she also has a cute little fluffy tail too. I would take pictures, but unfortunately my camera is broken at the moment.

So now it's onto the harder parts, the head for one, and my boot covers. Plus I still have to decide if I could survive in jacketded Sally or not. And if so, make something a bit more lightweight than denim for it. More updates to come when I seriously start on the head...wish me luck!
