Link (Hero's tunic) - Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

London MCM Expo May 2009

3rd place in Masquerade at Nemacon / Guinness World Record holder: most game cosplayers in one place

EDIT 2 I've entered the Otaku House Cosplay Idol competition with this: <3? /EDIT

EDIT 1 I was shown in Neo Mag Cosplay Corner :D /EDIT

I decided to cosplay as Link because I had heard about the world record attempt taking place at the London MCM Expo May 2009 and thought that we stood a really good chance of winning and, voila, we succeeded.
The tunic and hat were made out of a green fleece blanket that I picked up at a discount store for a couple of quid. Imaginatively, the chain mail was made out of an old cardigan and cut up a pair of woolly tights for the sleeves. I 'borrowed' my mum's brown fleece gloves and cut the fingers off (she won't want them back now) and made the belts and pouches from scratch from a large sheet of heat proof table protector - the stuff that you would normally use to put underneath your table cloth.
The boots were an eBay bargain and I found the perfect trousers on the sale rail in TKMaxx for £5. I got the sword when I was five and into dressing up as soldiers and the thing that took the longest was probably the shield which was actually made from cardboard.
I was a bit unsure about how to make the elfen ears look realistic but on a chance outing to a huge shopping centre, saw a joke shop and thought, "I'll ask in here". Surprisingly they had the perfect ears (in a selection of colours, even green!) so I sewed them and a blonde hairpiece into the hat, added a few fake earrings and couldn't believe how well it had turned out.
I'm really pleased with the hat because it can be taken on and off in one piece - great for when it gets too hot inside the main Expo hall.
At the Expo I got loads of positive comments about my costume which made me proud since it was completely home made from bizarre and random stuff.

Was also worn on the Saturday of Nemacon.
