I'm Rosanna, Rosie or whatever crazy nickname you'd like to come up with yourself. Music, gaming and circus skills (juggling, poi etc) are my main loves. When I'm not practising the latter for the circus company I co-run, I watch films, anime + documentaries, play video games, nerd out with my friends, read books/manga, go to gigs, festivals, conventions and stand up comedy.
I got started in the world of cosplay in October 2009 when I attended my first London Expo with my brother 1337Pete and college friend as TF2 characters (I was the Scout). Though it has only been 4 years, I feel I have learnt quite a bit and like everyone, continue to learn with each costume. The source media is not new to me, though; I have been watching anime since I was a child when I fell in love with The Moomins. I was then reintroduced to anime when I received Spirited Away for Christmas circa 2006/2007 and had frequent chats (and DVD swops) with my RE teacher about Studio Ghibli (!!)
I continue to cosplay with Pete, but now our childhood friend cosplaymatt1 joins us too :D Probably one of my proudest moments so far was the positive feedback Matt and I received on our chain scythe for Black Star and Tsubaki. It was our first prop and we learnt so much from it.
All three of us love the idea of it all; how you use materials to become that chosen character for the day and are treated in that sense. When you are on the ExCel perimeter, people don't bat an eyelid at cosplayers as it is encouraged so much, however as soon as you go outside, it's the opposite! On top of all that, by going to cons in cosplay you get to meet fans of the same series as you. What's not to love?
I tend to do characters I like from the media they come from, especially if they are gregarious/enigmatic/smiley/happy-go-lucky as that is my nature irl. However, I'm always up for doing chars outside of this type and from shows etc I do not know. I will go out of my way to watch or play said thing (when possible) to familiarise myself with them and understand their context.
As it stands, my favourite costumes (on me, enjoyment and aesthetically) are Yuffie and Faye.
Have been thinking it would be great for my bro and I to do a hardcore/epic cosplay for May Expo 2014 as it'll be our tenth time :O
