Cosplay Island On The Move!

Article by Richard Perrin (PerrinAshcroft) posted Sunday 10th April 2011

UPDATE: The site has now been sucessfully moved over to the new server. Huzzah!

Later tonight Cosplay Island will be down for a few hours, we're thinking around 10pm, as once again we're moving servers. I don't think it will have escaped your notice that the site has been getting slower and slower over the past 6 months. We've been doing everything we can behind the scenes to speed things up but we are simply a victim of our own success. If you want the more boring technical specifics I'll post them below. For the rest of you just have your fingers crossed that when we come back up things will be running a fair bit smoother.

Japanese earthquake and tsunami appeal

Article by Tom Phillips (drowned_panda) posted Monday 28th March 2011

On Friday March 11th a huge 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of a country which all hold dear to our hearts, Japan.

The resulting tsunami has claimed the lives of over 10,000 people and just under 17,500 are still missing (according to reports at the time of writing). Many survivors have been left homeless by the disaster, as well as making many children orphans.

Being the country which is the origin of the hobby which unites this website, many of you may feel an affinity with Japan and may wish to donate to the relief effort. You can do so by visiting the British Red Cross website here - http://www.redcross.org.uk/Donate-Now/Make-a-single-donation/Japan-Tsuna...

Thank you.

Minamicon footage and Kitacon reminders!

Article by Kat B (Delusional) posted Sunday 27th March 2011

Minamicon is over for another year, and shockingly enough we already have the footage from the masquerade! Edited by Perrin, you can find it in the articles section - Minamicon 17 Masquerade.

But the con season has definitely started, with Kitacon kicking off this coming Friday 1st April! If you want to enter the masquerade, the deadline is the 30th March and they won't be accepting registrations at the convention - so make sure you send your entry in by Wednesday!

For the more competitive types, they are also holding a cosplay competition over the weekend as a separate event where you are interviewed by a panel of friendly judges about your costume. You need to sign up for this event separate to the masquerade and there are a few spaces left, so give it a go and get your entry in now.

Good luck and have fun to everyone entering, and we look forward to seeing all the photos go up after the convention!
