Hyper Japan - entry deadline 12th Feb!

Article by Kat B (Delusional) posted Saturday 11th February 2012

Hey guys, just a quick reminder that the last date to enter the various cosplay competitions and events for this year's Hyper Japan is tomorrow, 12th February! All three events, the COSparade, WCS and ECG require online registration prior to the event, so now is your last chance to get on stage, wow the audience and perhaps be flown across the world to take part in an international competition!

They've just announced their judges for the weekend; double-WCS champions (2006 & 2011) Mauricio And Mônica Somenzari from Brazil, and two representatives from BekkHans Studios, which has been creating props, set design and concept art for many years in the movie and entertainment industry. Check out the projects they have worked on at the Bekkhans Studios website. Founder John Bekkensten will be on the judging panel, alongside concept artist Adelaïde Filippe, who is also a cosplayer and has been involved with ECG and WCS judging in previous years.

With these guys as judges, you'll be in good hands! Make sure to check out the info on the Hyper Japan cosplay page, and sign up by tomorrow!

Getting ready for Kitacon?

Article by Kat B (Delusional) posted Monday 23rd January 2012

With Kitacon sold out and rapidly approaching, I hope everyone's cosplay plans are sorted? At the least I hope you've started ;) During all that sewing, don't forget to register for their cosplay events though!

If you want to show off your costume, look at taking part in the main cosplay event, the masquerade on the Saturday night. For those of you going with a more competitive nature, check out the cosplay competition - with both Saturday & Sunday times available, this allows you to show off your costume to a panel of judges and be put forward for a cosplay award. For the more flamboyant (cosplaying or not) sign up for 'Kita's Got Talent?', the variety show held on the Sunday of the con. All three events are open for entry, with the masquerade and competition closing a week before the con, and 'Kita's Got Talent?' closing at the end of March. Spaces are limited for all events though, so make sure you register soon! You can find all the forms on the cosplay section of the Kitacon website.

There's also been a change in staff at Kitacon, with Chibi taking over organising & running the cosplay events! You can get hold of her either by emailing the cosplay address (cosplay@kitacon.org) or via the Kitacon Forum. Any questions about the cosplay events, panels or general weapon enquiries, she'll be able to help! Check out the Kitacon weapon guidelines and the Kitacon Forum for extra info and to see what everyone else is making!

Also don't panic if you're not planning any complicated styling for your current costumes, because they are also accepting wigs that were created before the competition. We know we've seen some amazing wigs go up on here, so good luck to everyone entering!

2012 gets rolling!

Article by Kat B (Delusional) posted Thursday 5th January 2012

Hopefully by now you've recovered from the festive season, and whatever you did on New Year's Eve! Welcome to 2012, where the cosplay season is kicking off earlier than usual!

Firstly, on Jan 6th registration opens for the first ever UK selection for the World Cosplay Summit, being held at Hyper Japan. Compete for a chance to represent our country in this famed competition - you have until February 14th to enter, with Hyper Japan being held on 24th-26th Feb. Check out the Hyper Japan Cosplay Facebook page for more details and to chat with other possible entrants!

Remember the deadline for the Namco Bandai UK SoulCalibur V costume contest is the 23rd January, so only a few weeks to finish your costume and get your photos in! Read our previous news post for all the details.

Lastly Minamicon 18 has put live it's masquerade registration forms, it may be a small con but places are still limited so get yours in before the convention to guarantee a spot. (And it's possibly less likely P-chan will muck up your audio on the day if you get in early!) Pop over to the Minamicon 18 site to get your entry in.
