An anniversary and more event news
Article by Kat B (Delusional) posted Sunday 26th July 2009
Another year has flown by - somehow, we've now been running for 2 years! I just wanted to give a thanks to those involved with Cosplay Island, from the users to the staff who keep things running. (And mainly to Amy-Lou and Sean, who have been pretty much running the site over the last few months!)
Now onto the actual news! The last week has been quite busy - the Grand International Cosplay Ball have announced their dates for this year's event, MCM Expo are launching a new 'Roadshow' event and Ayacon has announced a cosplay guest in their line-up. Read on for more information!
The Grand International Cosplay Ball
Everyone who attended last year's event (and those who missed out for one reason or another) should have been waiting for this - the organisers of the ball have finally announced the dates for this year. Running on the 29th November, the theme this year is "An Enchanted Forest" and it will be held in the same venue as last year's.
The tickets are set to go on sale August 3rd - there's no excuse, get planning your outfit now! Full details of the guest line-up and venue can be found on their website:
MCM Cosplay Roadshow
London Expo is always a massive hit with cosplayers, but people do often moan about the travel and cost to get there - well, it seems Expo are listening! The Expo team have just announced their Cosplay Roadshow, a series of smaller events around the UK. From the details announced so far they plan to have a masquerade, workshops and gaming area. The first Cosplay Roadshow is scheduled for the 12th September at Wolsey Hall, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.
Full details can be found on their forums:
Ayacon Revolution announces JoEllen Elam as a guest
Joellen Elam, probably best known for her original faerie designs and her costume commission business Firefly Path has been announced as a guest for Ayacon. She will be holding various cosplay panels, along with co-hosting a panel with Matt Mercer on There Will Be Brawl, for which she does the make-up and prosthetics work. Hopefully this should provide some interesting events for the attendees!
As a reminder for cosplayers attending Ayacon - the Masquerade and Sunday Night Live places are filling up steadily. If you do intend to enter, make sure you register online! We shall be opening the registrations for the Cosplay Island sponsored competition at Ayacon tomorrow - keep an eye on the site.
We've had many entries come through for the Cosplay Island "Cosplay Showcase" at Ayacon - but we want more! We wish to show off all the amazing costumes that you guys produce, but can't do it without your help. (I would PM everyone on the site for permission to use their photos, but I do intend to sleep before Ayacon...)
So please, send us through your photos so you can be part of the biggest cosplay gallery we've had at a con yet. It's just a bit of fun, but won't take you long to enter:
