I might make myself a few enemies here but I personally think making a cosplay ZOMG SECRET, is just a cheap way to get attention.

If you want to make it a secret then dont tell anyone....dont put it on your cosisland page. I'm much more impressed when I see a cosplay that I totally wasnt expecting in all its finished glory. It makes for a nice suprise. Making a big deal out of it is hypocritical and goes against the point! Thats just my personal opinion on the subject.

I'm not trying to bash you in anyway, Im sure whatever your making will be very impressive as your past work has proved. I just wanted to make a generalised point on 'secret' costumes.

a few people have asked about my 2nd day cosplay, and i've been telling them that it was a secret, or in some cases telling them what it was. i'm jsut a bit rubbish at keeping a secret secret, haha...

See, I've got a secret costume at the moment, but it's because I want to collect a few things first to see if it's viable. It's on my cosisland as a placeholder for a few days. It's not a long-standing secret as I suck at those!

Same as Mike, none of the group have posted theirs, but I want somewhere to chronicle it as you can't add back-dated journals yet
Maybe an option to hide costumes would be worth suggesting, so it only shows in your own costume list.

Xaerael - Depends how many people you've told XD

I'm with Laura on this one.

I've got a few costumes planned that I want as surprises so I'm not going to post them here until they are done. Half the fun of secret costumes is the surprise aspect after all!

I'm siding with Laura and Kazz on this.

Secret costumes do seem a little 'omg look at me' spirit to them. There's nothing wrong with doing a secret costume, but it seems to defeat the object by SAYING you're doing one, and watching people attempt to guess what you're doing.

I think its more gratifying when you work on it, in your own time and then when its finally uploaded complete in all its glory, it has a bigger "wow" factor. :B

THIS! I love the costume planning features, sometimes they keep me going and focussed and if it's a secret one, you can't do this properly!

actually, that would be an awesome feature... possibly a LJ-esque public/friends/private function?

Hmm, okay you guys have pretty much sold the concept of this to me, I can understand why people would use it.

At the moment you can add a costume (i.e. as Amy-Lou has done and just called it '?' ) and if you want to use the To-Do lists you can make them private - so you can still use it as a planning tool without giving away your costume. Unfortunately we don't have this option on journals.

The idea of marking your entire costume as secret (and hiding it from view) has been added to the giant list of 'Things to do on the site', we'll see what we can do

(See, I do read the forums sometimes!)

Put me in the same catagory unfortunatly "secret cosplays" get on my breast ends a little, some of my friends do em and the thing is these people produce really ground breaking work you know, I would much prefare not knowing there is a secret cosplay. but again looking at your work there really isnt much need for it, your producing good stuff.

It's their choice if someone wants to make a secret cosplay, but you know... Posting loads of hints in the information section for the cosplay makes it attention seeking, in my opinion. If you want a secret cosplay, keep the bloody thing secret! Don't go giving people loads of hints for the attention!

Progress pictures on a secret cosplay seem a little pointless to me... I mean if it's supposed to be a secret until the day it's being worn, what's the point in posting progress on it? XD

Personally I'd never be able to keep a cosplay secret because I'd want to tell people about it LOL.

Just an FYI for people.

I was talking to Delusional about this the other night and if you want to keep a costume out of the public eye, but still use the site features, leaving the costume icon blank will stop it appearing on the front page as an updated costume. Your friends list will still get notifications, but it's not going to attract general attention.

For those wanting to add progress pics; adding them to journals will not flag the costume or photo on the front page either.

Hope this helps
