Bleaching (or otherwise highlighting) velvet
I was wondering if anyone had done a portion of a piece of velvet to highlight a pattern on it.

This is my source image:

I've heard bleach is fine; if watered down carefully and dabbed on. I will be testing first (of course!) but if there was a really neato easier way then I'd love to know it.

Due to it being velvet, I sadly can't just sew on another piece of fabric on top, bit annoying that even though I love the velvet effect

I haven't tried it myself, but the technique you're after is called 'devore'.

Looks interesting, will take a look for more information on that technique (I wish they'd include pictures of the results!).

I don't necessarily want to burn it out if it will just look odd when the burn is complete or maybe if they intend more fabric to be added after lightening it is all I need
