So, for world cosplay day, I've been thinking about cosplaying an inconspicuous character and go mooching around the village on the lookout for other (braver) cosplayers.

Characters that fit this criteria that I can think of ~ Ayu from Kanon, Hinata from Shippuden, L (Death Note), femSasuke (Naruto), Rose (Homestuck)...

(Is there really such a thing as inconspicuous cosplay though? Really?!)

Desmond Miles or any of the other ‘present day’ characters from Assassin’s Creed (such as Lucy Stillman or Rebecca Crane if you don’t want to crossplay)

Personally if I'm going for inconspicuous, I have Claire from resident evil and Lara croft from the new tomb raider, both of which have gotten me no attention from non-cosplayers. Generally for inconspicuous stuff think of things set in present-day, so persona, fruits basket, the walking dead, etc. It depends what you're interested in

I reckon that red-dress Panty (from Panty and Stocking) would be quite inconspicuous, especially on a night out! XD

I would say anything without a wig is inconspicuous. Generally wigs automatically make people click onto the fact you're wearing a costume, regardless of how simple the costume is.

Wear something simple, that you can get away with your own hair, and generally those people who know the series will recognise you're cosplaying, yet those who don't won't know.

I wore a wig round college and didn't get a second glass. And it was a very long blonde wig (and I'm a brunette). So, it does depend on the wig XD

But yeah, you can normally tell fake hair from real hair.

A lot of television and Western cosplays are passable as every day clothing. I've worn Doctor Who, Glee, Torchwood and similar costumes out in public that still class as every day clothing. ^^

Any of the Homestuck kids except Dirk (those glasses will give you away), I'm pretty sure I could get away with wearing Luke from Professor Layton or Ness from EarthBound in public and I did plan to cosplay young movie Once-ler casually to see if I could brighten a few days while the movie was out but I never finished that one u__u;

Basically if it's plain clothes, nothing crazy and you have a wig that's a natural colour and doesn't look like a wig, you can probably get away with it.

My cosplay this year (Emmy Altava from Professor Layton) WOULD be inconspicuous, as the clothes she wears would probably be clothes that I would wear anyway, and I don't need a wig... except I'm going to be strolling around with a Professor Layton in a giant hat as well.

But yes, that would otherwise be very inconspicuous I think.

I have plans to Cosplay as Ellie from the Upcoming Naughty Dog game "The Last of Us". She wears a very normal outfit, the only thing that would be unusual about it would be the fact she is all dirty and that she occasionally walks around with a Rifle

A lot of shows set on modern Earth, and quite a few games set in "the real world" like the various Dead (Rising, Island, Left for) games have normal clothes costumes. So much so that I've often had the "are they cosplaying?" moment at events.



I don't think there is one. Or at least not a consistant, universally agreed upon, one.

Most World Cosplay Days are organised locally, or via a website or organisation for a limited audience.

Excuse my use of wording, it's actually "International Cosplay Day", and it's held on the last Saturday of August, annually. People do actually celebrate it, as one of my mates filmed a Miku and Rin walking around the shops last year!

Just to throw a few more ideas out there not already mentioned, I'd say that there would be some good choices in Nana, Beck, Bakuman, Silent Hill, Parasite Eve, Uncharted and Heavy Rain.
