Im very new to the cosplay world and for my second cosplay decided to do my OC Catkind character from Doctor Who (loads of wip pics in my gallery). The cosplay is virtually done but now after reading posts on other sites Im nervous about cosplaying her after seeing entire threads stating that people hate OCs, OCs are stupid etc etc
Am I just being daft? c.c Only I think 4 members of this race have been shown in the series and they have all had different colours/markings - is it "wrong" of me to portray a different coloured/marked one? Im just getting a bit worried

You could put an amazing amount of time/effort/money into it, but people don't care cause they don't recognise it; It's the same risk as doing a niche character.
But no, it's the minority that go "I hate OCs" and it's a bit pathetic of them really. There is nothing wrong with doing one. |

http://www.cosplayisland.co.uk/costume/view/29554 If you follow that link you'll a friend of mine cosplaying her OC, and she's had nothing but good feedback from it. If you remember that cosplaying is about having fun, and keep that in mind there's no reason for you not to cosplay your OC. And there are people out there (me included) that dont mind what or where the idea for your costume came from, they will appreciate it if its well made, and you're happy with it! |

In the real world, most people just presume you are from a series they don't know. But I'll echo the other posters here - you won't get stopped for pictures unless your costume is really, really amazing. |
