Prop sword question
So I'm making a prop sword, and I was wandering if I needed to place a wooden dowel or something in between layers of card to reinforce the sword?

Also if anyone has any tips or advice on making prop swords that would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Depends on length but if its a decent size you will probably want something as a core else it will bend. I'd check con rules as it will usually have to be a soft wood for the core. I'm working on two big prop swords with a friend and I think she's using a soft wood dowel covered in styrene for the base.

It depends on which event(s) you want to take it to, what sword it is and a couple other factors really - any chance you have a reference you can post?

I'd say it depends on length, my sword for Link from OoT was literally just made of mount board, I put no reinforcements inside it and it held very well, even after falling off my horse xD

The blade of the sword is about 39.1cm in length.

This is the basic shape that I've aimed for.

This is what I've got at the moment.

For my sword which was a metre in length and was made from mount board (which is pretty thick and sturdy) and card was quite solid. That was 3 layers of mount foam with two pieces of thin card either size.
Cardboard bends easy and once it has a bend in it, it will continue to keep that bent notch even during paper maché and your blade will end up wonky. If you are using just cardboard for your sword, yeah I would reinforce it.

Thanks Koiice and everyone else for the advice about checking con rules about prop size.
