Silent Film/Slapstick group for Ayacon?
I've posted this on the Ayacon forums as well trying to reach as many peeps as possible

This may be a long shot but I'm giving it a go anyway

I'm going to be cosplaying as Buster Keaton (perhaps on the Sun I don't know yet) and I thought it would be nice to have a little group of silent film comedians prat-falling around. Perhaps a Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, Laurel & Hardy etc? I realise this is nowhere near anime & manga but it's something I'm really into and I can't pass up this chance seeing as this is the only con I'm attending this year.

I'm going to have white make up on my face, neck and hands to have it appear as if I'm in black and white too, it should be fun, group or no

Buster thanks you for your time

I couldn't take part in a group, but I have to say, this is pretty awesome. I've never seen any cosplay of old silent films stars before and I like Buster Keaton so I'll look out for you there!

Very unique approach. I'm not much for anime/manga myself (Which is what 75% of the cosplays I see, not that I'm complaining), but I love it when people take a left field approach and do an old TV show/movie character (At one con I saw a Macgyver and a Ghostbuster), and never have I seen a silent film cosplay. Buster Keaton is a great place to start, but I just hope the others get who you are.

Good luck, and please do post some pics. I'd love to see how this turns out!

I had the same idea a while ago, after watching The Goodies episode "The Movies", where Bill Oddie makes silent black and white movies. I posted on my Facebook about it. i think its a fantastic idea, and a very unique group. I was gonna do Charlie Chaplin, and i had people interested in Keaton, the Marx brothers, and Laurel and Hardy. I would be very temped to do Chaplin if this group takes off!

This is the goodies episode im talking about. if you've not seen it, id reccomend watching it for the Bill Oddie bit, and how i'd do it myself. part 1 of it doesnt seem to be on youtube, but part 2 and 3 are found here...

Thanks for the interest guys, I've got most of the outfit already and just did a make up test with some Snazaroo foundation and stargazer powder. It looks okay, still have some fine tuning to do though!

I got the idea from a pair of Kingdom Hearts cosplayers I saw once, they did Timeless River Sora and Kairi and their entire outfit/make up was grayscale.
Pic here

I wouldn't be too bothered if people didn't recognise me tbh, I've done a few obscure ones in the past hehe. I'll just have fun wearing it cos I love Buster

That would be great if you could do Chaplin, hopefully there will be some more interest between here and August. If not I'll just have to make them all myself and do some photoshop magic

I'm just uploading some of the test pics to my laptop now so they'll be up here soon.

*edit*

Here is what I have so far

Good grief what am amazing idea of epic proportion!! I'm definitely going to Aya so if I can pull the outfit together (which should be a piece of nicely frosted cake) I would certainly like to join you as Harold Lloyd at some point on the Sunday. Even if no one recognises us this will be a heck of a lot of fun!!!! Your progress pic looks ace and that pic of the Kingdom Hearts cosplayers is amazingly cool.

I'm definitely 100% in!! Outfit should be rediculously simple since I have most of it anyway, just need to cut down and style a wig I already have (which will mostly be obscured by the hat yaaaaaay), sort the glasses and play around with make up. Let me know which day you want to do this nearer the time, I have a Star Trek group at some point (no day set yet) but we'll work something out if it clashes - I'll definitely join you at some point for prat falling and general hilarity, if I have time I may have to make a clock face!!

EDIT - just added the costume to my profile so it's official. Hurrah!!

Sure sure! I'm not 100% sure on which day yet but I thought it would be a simple casual cosplay to do on the Sun maybe?

Wold you be doing the white make up at all?

Ahaha yes! I can think of some great 'messing around with perspective ' photos to go with that I've also got a moustache, book and magnifying glass if I feel like Sherlock Jr'ing.
