I'll most likely get around to making one so that I can keep my personal FB account....well, personal! There's a lot of people on my facebook friends list that I never bothered to tell about my cosplaying before since I wasn't that close, or I never really figured they'd care.

It's one way to keep things organised but if I've got everything put in one place here, I dont know if I can be bothered to maintain a third account though.

I think it's totally down to the individual. If I did more photoshoots, I'd probably use a cosplay FB page, but I don't really do that many professional looking photos so I don't bother.

Other people do them to separate out the two lives. They don't want to mix to two lives as some friends are a bit douchey when it comes to cosplays. I mean the friends that make the inappropiately lewd or harsh joke about a costume, and it makes you feel uncomfortable with the idea of wearing it (has happened to me).

But, yeah, there is nothing wrong with having one. It's totes up to you :3

Making a cosplay Facebook page for yourself doesn't harm anyone. I've seen quite a few people bitching about this over Facebook, where people think it's ridiculous to create one or are basically just making one to show off or whatever. I've even see people having a go about new cosplayers making a page for themselves, essentially not deeming them worthy of making a page on Facebook.

In the end, it really doesn't matter. Having a Facebook page is no worse than setting up an account on deviantART, Cosplay.com, Cosplay Island or any other website. People seem to think that because Facebook is more of a 'mainstream' social network, you need to jump through hoops and have x amount of fans to justify yourself making a page.

Everyone is welcome to make one, whether people like it or not. There's always the option of deleting a page if it makes you uncomfortable as well. It's not something that I'd personally do but I don't see the point in looking down on people just because they want to share their costumes with the world.

I can sympathise with the wanting to keep it separate from personal FB. I have familly and work colleagues on mine that I'm not keen on sharing my hobbies with. So yeah, I think you should go for it.

I think if you want to keep it separate from your normal life then go for it. I don't know about you guys but i have a lot of friend requests from people i have never met, just cos i cosplay. i also got a pm from snog marry avoid LMAO so in that respect having a separate page to your friends and family is a good idea, its just effort to keep it updated.


on the other hand, if you are using it to get a modeling job or for popularity i would suggest to avoid doing this.

For modeling it would actually be detrimental as model agencies want someone who isn't known someone they can make a brand from.

A good point because most photographers/ make-up artists/ wardrobe designers etc will use sites like Model Mayhem or casting agencies when looking for models. They aren't going to go browsing through loads of random fb pages.

ask me a few months ago, and I would have told you I don't see the point, why hide the fact your a cosplayer?

But now, about 4/5 weeks ago I set up a website which is very cosplay based, with other little projects, and I run it like a blog, and when I made that, I used my cosplay name of course, and it slowly dawned on me.

If, and okay it's a big if but still, if I ever got a large following/fan base whatever you want to call it, and you search Riaure on google, basically every page/account I ever have done comes up. And I wouldn't want that. I wouldn't want 'fans' to have quick, vast access to information I wouldn't want them knowing. I mean good god, it's not like I'm and ex-con or anything, but i dunno, certain parts of my life I would be uncomfortable if my 'fans' knew.

With me It's not a case of hiding it from people on my FB list either, I post cosplay progress and stuff there aswel and they either like it or lump it, but the other main reason is ease. Like, if I meet someone at a con and we get to talking about making cosplays and stuff and I want to show them photos of stuff I have made, now I can just link them to my facebook, rather than having to scroll through all the personal photos, posts and stuff they don't want to know.

I just have the one FB profile page in which if I feel there are people on my 'friends' list that would be best not to see my cosplay hobbies and posts, I turn them to acquaintances. Then they won’t see any of the posts. There are many people I meet through cosplay that I allow as friends on my own profile as I mainly post about my interests including cosplay on this account. I like the idea of having a separate page but it does come down to the individual and having the capacity to keep a separate account up to date.
