Hello there and greetings. I'm fairly new to the whole cosplay affair and I've begun recently endeavoring to work on a Cosplay based on Beserker from Fate/Zero for May's MCM coming up this year.

However, I've run into a pressing problem. The nitpicking sort I am, I'm trying to look for some rather large chains for the sword I'm working on for this character, called Aroundight.



As you can see, at the base of the blade and where the handle begins, there are chains overlapping in an X formation. I would like to know, if possible, if there are any places online I can buy either fake plastic chains or silver ones. Also, how would one go about painting these chains? With spray paint to the job or is there something better I can use? I've hunted online for weeks to no avail! Help this poor, crazy lady out, someone?

Just a quick search on ebay for "plastic chains" throws up a few results (eg. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WHITE-PLASTIC-CHAIN-5-metre-length-barrier-garden-/110477243921?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19b8f4f611 ). I guess the other option might be to try and construct something with foam. I suspect spray paint will do the job.

Was trying to avoid 5 meter long ones, but that one looks pretty darn good for the price. There was another site selling something similar, but it wanted me to buy lots of the darn things. I greatly appreciate the help.

Gonna attempt some spray painting within the next few weeks and see how it goes.

Have a look in fancy dress shops as you get the "ball and chain" costume props for hen and stag do's. Also have a look in cheaper clothes shops as you get chain belts and hand bags and stuff which might be cheaper than buying 5m of plastic stuff. I'm going to B&Q tonight but they might have a "cut your own" chain section which might do plastic chain for barriers and stuff.

You can get lots of different styles of chain in most DIY shops (home base etc.). They'll usually cut the chain from a roll to whatever the length you're after.
