GEEK2013 (Game Expo East Kent) - anyone going?
Just found about this event yesterday! http://www.geek2013.co.uk

I've just begun my final major project at university, which I am basing around cosplay, and for which I need to conduct primary research. My university is in Kent, so the idea of sampling a brand new, reasonably local event is appealing! It would also be good to gauge if there are many cosplayers going, so I can have an idea of how beneficial it will be, educationally. (Also for how much fun it will be, personally )

Just thought I'd put it out there, in case there's some cosplayers from the Kent area who are unfamiliar with it, and might like to come along! I'm based in Maidstone, and will be getting the train there, hopefully with a friend or two in tow, and hopefully in cosplay! (If I do cosplay, I suspect it'll be Iron Lass Jade Harley, as she's nice and warm, and conveniently on-hand.) Tickets are pretty cheap, and they offer concession prices! From the website description, it sounds really interesting

I'm hoping to go along. It's in my home town for a start and though I'm not really big into gaming (apart from a bit of Pokemon and Professor Layton at the moment) a lot of the events sound really interesting. If I do go it may well be in a Pokemon trainer cosplay. I really like the Black&White female design (all depends on how cold it might be).

I can't imagine a game expo neglecting Pokemon, sounds like there's going to be a fairly big card gaming section too so that might have Pokemon as well!

Surely there's more cosplayers in Kent than just us two xD I expect most people just aren't aware of it... might have to conduct project research online instead of in person if it comes to it. But I'm hoping I'll arrive and there'll be lots of cosplayers

And yeah, cold's something I'm bearing in mind xD might get some thermals to stick on underneath so that I don't have to bulk up with jumpers!

If you're a Facebook user, do you know about the Kent Cosplay Group? https://www.facebook.com/groups/kentcos/

GEEK doesn't seem to be too well known, but I see they are trying to encourage more cosplay, so now I'm almost definitely going along on the Saturday. If you see me, feel free to grab me and I'll answer questions as best I can.

Ah that's great, thanks! I'll check out the Facebook group

Yes it's looking like I'll be going Saturday and Sunday now, since the programme was published it has events both days that are relevant to my project. Also I like that it appears there's cosplay areas running all day every day. I've emailed the organisers for more info so will see what happens with that!

I'm going with my sister (springinstep above) on Saturday as King Dedede. One of my previous cosplays but with his winter scarf.

I think there's more cosplayers going that I've heard from the GEEK Facebook page.
