Newbie to cosplay attempting Shiro - Deadmand Wonderland
Howdy guys,

I'm a newbie here. Thinking of going with some mates to the London Expo in May.
I really wanna go as Shiro.

(So cute~)

A few questions.

Any idea how to make the neck cast? I'm thinking getting some thin foam as I saw a vid on youtube using such a thing but they fail to explain how they close the thing.

Also, I'm mixed race so being an albino chick will be interesting. I'm naturally the colour of my name; Fawn.
I'm not keen on pasty-ing myself up, so probably won't bother. But does anyone know of a pale mineral powder as that stuff feels great and if there is a pale version perhaps it'll be useful in getting the look a bit better.

So far, I'm thinking a near skin coloured unitard. Painting on the design then getting some kind of fixative to preventing falling off.
Any idea if there is a colouring material better for stretchy material like latex that will not risk crumbling off at any point?

Think the gloves will be pretty straight forward. And will probably outline my eyes with black then whiten the lashes.
Not sure about contacts yet. Any sites would be appreciated.

Thanks~

The collar can be made really well (and really light) using plastazote. It's a kind of foam that heat-moulds really well!

Also, fabric paint on a skin coloured zentai suit works really well ^_^

Thanks for the plastazote idea, will have to see if I can find some near by.
As for the Zentai suits (look very gimpish...) any idea what material that might be what you're talking about or is this in general? Because judging by the look of them, if fabric paint works on them it might work on unitards. It's just I know unitards will be preferably tight but flexible for movement which is where my worry for the paint crumbling comes from.
I think the materials might be similar enough for it to work but I think I might have to do a test patch on something. >.>

There are some really nice Shiro cosplayers around so it may be worth looking around for inspiration Thats my first step for any cosplay!

Fabric paint would be the best option. If you have any doubts get some fabric that is the same as the bodysuit and test it for paint thickness and brush sizes. I'd reccomend you get a friend to help put the paint on while you wear it as the fabric stretches and it ensures that what you paint would be what you get And ironing after letting the paint dry would lock the paint into the fabric.

Shiro can be done really well sometimes.
I've not actually seen any bad ones on my google search tbh.
Yep, I'm hoping to get my two friends used to cosplay to help me, they'll do it whether they like it or not!
But I hadn't thought about ironing it! Brilliant, thank you!

Also considering doing the straight jacket too.
Will have to re-read the masterpiece and see how often she sports the look, as I might do her more than one day.

Well this version here was definitely done with a skin-coloured lycra zentai suit painted with red fabric paint. It looked good, she had great movement and it was very vibrant!

I did Shiro a year or two ago (lol can't remember!), not very well I may admit, however I still thought I'd throw out that when I painted the suit I watered down the paint a little bit so that it got right into the fibers of the suit - not just sat on top of it (so it couldn't "crumble" as you put it)

Can't wait to see your costume~!

Thanks for the replies guys.
Got a wig for Christmas for the costume. =D
The wig has these things that look like bra straps on the inside, any one familiar with wigs and how to make the best use of this kind of fastening to make it fit better? It's slightly big for my head currently so I could probably make it tighter, it's the first time I've had a wig!

I'm looking forward to getting the suit together, I'll work on the gloves first I think. ^_^

Heya!
I wish you so much luck on your cosplay~! I can't really think of much to add here, since pretty much everyone has said it.

For the make up even though I'm pretty pale already I used talcum powder. I'm pretty sure it's not great for your skin or that but it seemed to pale me out just a little bit.

Also! There is currently a Deadman Wonderland group in progress on the Saturday of MCM Expo! I myself am going as Toto. The thread can be seen ~here~ -it would be wonderful if you could join us! c:

Woop! Count me in!
I've decided I won't go white, I like my skin colour too much and I think we can have a tanned Shiro easily. Just takes a while to get used to the idea but meh, I've seen white people play Storm without tanning up so I can be an albino character without pasting up.

If I could find a mineral powder which could lighten the look of the skin I'd go for it because that stuff feels great and is good for the skin. I don't want to be caked in anything though!

As for the group, awesome, I was just thinking of making a post for it! =D
