Buying a specific sword...
Hey guys, haven't been on for a while. Ok, so surprisingly enough I'm finding it quite hard to get a suitable sword for my cosplay in May.

The sword design is simple enough, it's a katana which is all black except for the blade, which is metallic and it has a square guard. See here.

I've had a look but most swords seem to be the wrong style/ wrong colour etc. Ideally I'm looking for a wooden one, as I know that'll be a lot easier getting it in and out of expo. But I seem to be a little stuck. Any recommendations for where to look?

I'd suggest you make one. You can get flat sheets of balsa that cuts very easily, I made a full sword in two hours with it (My Love Aikawa one)

However half of it is knowing exactly which sword it is. There's many different kinds and it's not limited just to Katana.

Who's the character? If I could get a look we can see if it's actually a Katana, Odachi, Nodachi, Tachi, Uchigatana etc or something based on them in between.

In Bleach, the Vizard all have different Samurai-class swords and it's not just one Katana model.

The pic shows a very sharp point to that blade, which makes it look a little like a machete or a ninja tang. Quick look on google gives me http://www.kaswords.com/ProductImages/swords_and_displays/ninja_swords/FMT-001-02.jpg

However that's metal and a nono. I'd buy it as something to use as an outline to build your own.

Halfords make a tape that is literally aluminium sheet, used correctly and carefully it'll coat a wooden or balsa sword to look metal, because it is real metal.

You can also buy aluminium plumber's tape in discount stores like QD.

I love that store! But the only one I know of is in Wellingborough. Is it some sort of east-lower midlands thing?

Yeah. Midlands/East Anglia area. Although bizarrely there's one store in Wales!

Thanks for the input, Jae. Well the character is the one I put the link up of, The Dishwasher Samurai. I think half the trouble is that because of the art style, and possibly the lack of research by SKA Studios, it may well just be a "Katana" to them. XD

The picture there is as much reference as I can give you, I'm afraid! It literally does just look like a plain black one with a square guard, I'm pretty sure it is curved though, not like a straight Ninja sword you sometimes see.

But ok, I shall look into it. It might prove to be a more cost efficient solution to make it myself anyway! Thanks, bro.
