£70 each or altogether?

Try hostels in the area if it's altogether. I found whilst in London the cheapest was £100, London City Airport Travelodge so you'll find £70 a bit hard.

There are youth hostels further away from expo that cost about £10 a night if you share a dorm room with others, but you have to factor in tube/dlr fares from there (I think you can get a day ticket for about a tenner, but don't quote me cos I've not been to Expo for 2 years and honestly can't remember). A quick googlemaps search will find you plenty cheap and cheerful options.

St. Christopher's Greenwich is about 30-40mins away via public transport and whist it's not fancy, it's cheap: http://www.st-christophers.co.uk/london-hostels/greenwich but you have to have someone aged 18 with you if you are not yourself (this is the deal with most youth hostels). I've stayed there before and it's fine. I've also stayed in several other youth hostels in London, though none of them are less than an hour away from Expo.

There's also The Great Eastern which is also about 30-40mins away, I've not stayed there but it looks nicer than St. Christopher's (and slightly closer) http://www.bestplaceinns.com/the-great-eastern/

You'll need to check prices for May yourself, but I know that they both start from about £10 a night.

Good luck!

I know the PTI (premier travel inn) is £77 between 3 for 3 nights, stands to reason it'd be roughly that between 2 for 2.

You won't get anything for £35 each local to ExCel.

It depends which 2 nights you want. Friday and Saturday night? I'll assume so, but Ibis Budget (previously Etap) if you pay at the time of booking, it is £76 (no refunds)
