Why do you cosplay?
Its just for fun mainly, I enjoy comics and games and its really refreshing to just let go and have a little fun.

What got you into it?
My friend from college used to cosplay, I always wanted to go but only really decided to give it a go after I moved home. I have always had an interest in costumes and characters since I was a child, so I guess that also encouraged me to give it a go.

How old are you?
..25

Are you male or female?
Female

How long have you been cosplaying for?

Three years

What is your greatest fear whilst being in costume? i.e costume/prop breaking/tearing
My outfit just falling apart.

Do you make or buy your costumes?
Make 80% buy 20%

Do you ever see yourself stopping cosplaying, if so why?
In the future I see myself cosplaying less, either because I have had my fill of costuming, or because of work/life commitments.

Have you ever had a member of the public/family member or another cosplayer pass a negative remarks towards what you when in costume? i.e saying you look silly/stupid
Yeah, but im ok with that.

Do you find cosplay stressful?
The making of the costume I find really stressful, but wearing it is fine.

Do you prioritise it over other hobbies/aspects of life? i.e staying in to finish a costume instead of hanging out with friends
No, I like to try and keep this a light hearted hobby, but sometimes I find myself becoming obsessed with costume work.

Do you keep cosplay separate from "normal" life, or do you integrate it? i
I dont keep it a secret, from my situation I see no reason to :3

Why do you cosplay?

Because I enjoy the process of making costumes of my favorite characters and then getting the chance to dress up as them!

What got you into it?

I stumbled upon a forum about cosplaying a couple years ago and I haven't looked back since!

How old are you?

19

Are you male or female?

Female

How long have you been cosplaying for?

About 4 years

What is your greatest fear whilst being in costume? i.e costume/prop breaking/tearing

My costume breaking on the day of a con and having nothing to fix it with!

Do you make or buy your costumes?

I make everything apart from shoes/socks and wigs!

Do you ever see yourself stopping cosplaying, if so why?

I can only see myself stopping if my career takes over my spare time. Being at Uni has slowed me down a bit but I always find time to fit a little bit of sewing in!

Have you ever had a member of the public/family member or another cosplayer pass a negative remarks towards what you when in costume? i.e saying you look silly/stupid

No, mainly because I found out what I wanted to do for a career through cosplay. My family are all supportive and they love to see my new cosplays when they are finished! As for the public, I haven't really had a bad experience yet. I normally get people come up to me asking for photos or complementing me which is lovely

Do you find cosplay stressful?

Nope! Unless something drastically goes wrong of course!

Do you prioritise it over other hobbies/aspects of life? i.e staying in to finish a costume instead of hanging out with friends

Not really, my uni work comes first and so do my friends and family. I have some friends that cosplay so we tend to make them together sometimes but generally cosplay is something I do in my spare time.

Do you keep cosplay separate from "normal" life, or do you integrate it? i.e separate facebook accounts.

Nope! Cosplay is a hobby of mine and in a way its a part of my life so I have never felt the need to separate it as I don't feel embarrassed that I cosplay. Most of the people I am friends with know that I cosplay so I don't feel like I need to hide it from them!

I dont think I will ever stop but if I will have to it would probably due to money

Why do you cosplay?

It's fun and it's a way of manifesting my love for my interests. You also meet great people!

What got you into it?

Hetalia! I kept seeing these lovely cosplays, so I though I'd try!

How old are you?

13, nearly 14.

Are you male or female?

Female

How long have you been cosplaying for?

....Since October 2012... Sooo.... 6 months? XD

What is your greatest fear whilst being in costume? i.e costume/prop breaking/tearing

That people will dislike it.

Do you make or buy your costumes?

I made my only cosplay, but I will most likely buy and make my own.

Do you ever see yourself stopping cosplaying, if so why?

If I choose to go on to becoming a doctor/politician, I would have to have a 'satisfactory' public image, so that is why I would most likely stop cosplaying.

Have you ever had a member of the public/family member or another cosplayer pass a negative remarks towards what you when in costume? i.e saying you look silly/stupid

Ahhh... So many times! People at school are constantly mocking me for it!

Do you find cosplay stressful?

Occasionally. When something isn't going right or when you're late for a meet...etc

Do you prioritise it over other hobbies/aspects of life? i.e staying in to finish a costume instead of hanging out with friends

Completely. I almost never socialise anyway, but cosplay is much more important to me than any social aspect of my life.

Do you keep cosplay separate from "normal" life, or do you integrate it? i.e separate facebook accounts.

I integrate it. I have one facebook for me. Just one. One tumblr. Cosplay is a part of my life and haters should just get on with their lives and not stress out over something that isn't part of their lives or in their control.

Why do you cosplay?
I enjoy the challenge of making a costume of the characters I like and meeting likeminded people at events. The reason why I continue to do it is probably because I've met so many wonderful people over the years and I enjoy the creative outlet cosplay gives me.

What got you into it?
It was probably more of a natural transition from the fancy dress I did growing up. Dressing up as characters from FFVII oh so badly Then I found out about cosplay online but thought they only did it in america so didn't think much on it. Then I heard about Expo, went and never looked back. I have been cosplaying ever since

How old are you?
25

Are you male or female?
Female

How long have you been cosplaying for?
Officially since May 2008 and with my debut at October Expo 2008 but technically since FFVII came out

What is your greatest fear whilst being in costume? i.e costume/prop breaking/tearing
Probably waredrobe fails or cosplays being ruined by people stepping on them. Though the second one is more of an irritation then a fear and I often carry safety pins for waredrobe fails. Oh actually wig slipping and my hair being on show is my biggest worry.

Do you make or buy your costumes?
Make and assemble. I make the majority of my cosplays though the ones where they are largely existing items like Military cosplay I will buy the components for but I've never bought a complete cosplay

Do you ever see yourself stopping cosplaying, if so why?
Nope I'm gonna be cosplaying in my retirement home I might slow down and go to less events when I settle down and start a family but I think I will always be working on something

Have you ever had a member of the public/family member or another cosplayer pass a negative remarks towards what you when in costume? i.e saying you look silly/stupid
I have a supportive family. Wait scratch that they like to tease but I've been doing it so long now I just tell em to not bother because it really doesn't bother me. I have had negative comments when I'm in costume but at the end of the day it usually just makes me laugh and there usually picking fun at the outfit then as me as a person so I can detatch myself from the critisim and work to get better

Do you find cosplay stressful?
Apparently sewing is supposed to be therapeutic and lower blood pressure but I think cosplay is a different kettle of fish. I unfortunatly have a bad habit of setting myself ridiculous goals so yes cosplay making can be stressful from reach deadlines and cosplay wearing can be stressful if your not 100% happy with what you've produced but all in all I think it's worth it as the stress dissapears when you get positive feedback from fellow cosplayers or strangers. So ultimatly yes cosplay can be stressful. Cosplayers (myself mainly) need to be more realistic with what can be achieved in x amount of time

Do you prioritise it over other hobbies/aspects of life? i.e staying in to finish a costume instead of hanging out with friends
I am guilty of this but I will generally stay home if the event is a small meet like going to the pub or cinema. If it's a big night out or birthday or something I will prioritise that over cosplay making and it does depend on deadlines and how close I am to a con. Though to tie into this I have been know to spend money on cosplay supplies instead of buying food :S

Do you keep cosplay separate from "normal" life, or do you integrate it? i.e separate facebook accounts.
It is kinda of integrated. I tell most people it's my hobby on first meeting them so there are no suprises. Usually it's met positively. I am planning to create a seperate fb account at some point and with the help of CI and DA accounts I can keep most of it seperate but cosplay is a part of me and who I am so I don't see a problem with having it on fb. Then again I am very lucky as my friends are all supportive of my strange hobby

Why do you cosplay?

Freedom, really. I've always been creative, loved anime/video games and dressing up and cosplay combined it all into one hobby

What got you into it?

My best friend in highschool and I used to stay behind after school streaming anime, then a guy I was interested in came and joined us and told us he went to conventions and cosplayed, so I made my first cosplay and went with. Basically to try and impress this guy. And no, it didn't work

How old are you?

21

Are you male or female?

Female

How long have you been cosplaying for?

Well, since highschool I wanted to, but never had the money/materials until I hit college, so I'd say about 16.

What is your greatest fear whilst being in costume? i.e costume/prop breaking/tearing
Proably the whole costume ripping thing. It actually happened with my Witch L$D costume, the crotch area tore appart and the shorts became a skirt, which was horrible to try and fix when your hands are covered in black paint.

Do you make or buy your costumes?
I like to make them where I can, but some, like Miku Hatsune, I buy out of the detailing.

Do you ever see yourself stopping cosplaying, if so why?

Hopefully not! The only thing that I can imagine stopping me in the short run is income, but i have a pretty secure job so, touch wood, that wont. Maybe I'll reach an age one day where I find it childish, but for now, I cant see that happening.

Have you ever had a member of the public/family member or another cosplayer pass a negative remarks towards what you when in costume? i.e saying you look silly/stupid

Thankfully not, but I am well aware I'm in the minority. My mom actually helps me make the costumes, so my family are supportive too.

Do you find cosplay stressful?

95% of the year, no. the 5% which is the couple of days before a convention- I absolutely freak out. I worry that I haven't finished everything, that they don't look good enough, that I'll lose something, god knows.

Do you prioritise it over other hobbies/aspects of life? i.e staying in to finish a costume instead of hanging out with friends

Most of my friends are cosplayers themselves, so they can totally realate. Even my boyfriend is a cosplayer. I manage to fit it around work, and my only other hobby is online gaming, which if I am desperate, I can work on cosplays and game so it all works out pretty well.

Do you keep cosplay separate from "normal" life, or do you integrate it? i.e separate facebook accounts.

Yes and no. I have two accounts, one for my cosplay/blog, one for personal, but I do post 'cosplay' photos on facebook, but not nearly as frequently as on my other account. I have them seperate purely because I work with kids who are constantly trying to find me on facebook, I have to keep my personal account on private view settings.
