So, in an attempt to fix my older mistakes, I've been re-covering my corset with material from a couple of pairs of jeans. However while I can sew the material fine and it has a fair amount of stretch, the edges are fraying fairly badly and pinching when I stitch it together.

Is there a way to stop the fraying without hemming the panels of fabric together? I can't afford to lose anymore material to a hem; the panels are tight enough as they are.

Has anyone tried Fray Check or similar before I spend the money on next day delivery?

Would clear nail varnish not work? I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Would this be on the edges, inside the corset, or visible on the front of the corset? Or a bit of PVA glue?

Obviously as I said, I'm not entirely sure what you're doing ><

I tend to use pva glue along the edge i'm going to cut. Mark out your pattern piece, pop a glue line/ snail trail along the marks all around your piece (use a small glue spreader for a bit more seam allowance) and wait to dry.
Once dry remark with the pattern, and cut along where you've glue. Hey presto not fraying. Well minimal.

I've used this for cutting SO many things out and works a treat! Also marginally costs less then using fray stop or anything else like that!

Sorry, I was typing quickly before dinner!

Basically it's the outside of the corset with visible seams - I'm rubbish at sewing, so I didn't know how to make them less obvious. Whilst I'm sewing (just like a running stitch), the material is fraying between the stitches and the fabric is pinching slightly.

I'm not too fussed about the visible seams. I accept it's going to look a bit rough and home made in the worst sense. However I'm trying to stop the loose threads poking out everywhere.

When do you need to do this by?

My best friend for stopping fraying AND apply stuff to other stuff is Heat'n'Bond Ultra Hold. It pretty much glues fabric together, so also stops stuff from fraying as it's really tough.

I'd recommend using that stuff - you don't need to sew it after (even recommends not to) but for peace of mind you'll be able to get through the heatnbond stuff with a leather needle. If you're hand sewing, I recommend getting a thimble too.

If you check out Enchantress stuff, the skirt is done all by that, as is the bottom edge of my corset.
