Hello to all the cosplayers here and all the other members on the forum, and thanks for taking the time to have a look at my thread! My name is Alex Vann and I am finishing my final year of university in Lincoln. Im studying photography and as part of my final year i am compliling a book all about cosplay! I am making a part documentary- part portraiture book similar to the style of FRUITS, and hope to publish it after university. The style of the book will be to photograph cosplayers in and out of costume, showing them as their normal selves and as their alter-ego in full costume. I know it may sound a bit unnerving to some to be photographed out of costume, but the aim of the book is to show how when you cosplay, you can transform yourself from your normal self, to your favourite character from any Anime, Manga comic or computer game. I am looking for volounteers willing to allow me to professionally photograph them both in, and out of costume, free of charge. Any volounteers will be given a copy of the images to keep for themselves as well. I like the idea. I think its a nice idea to get photos of people both in and out of cosplay. Two sides of the same coin as it were.

I have photograpy experience so I could gain insight into the sort of stuff you want ^.^ if your ever near hull Im sure you would find many as well as me who would be intrested (if you get chance look at the victorian steampunk pictures on my page ^^) i think its great what your doing if only my A-level photog wasnt so strict when i did it ^^

Wow!! I didn't expect such an enthusiastic response!!Thank you all very much! I am based in Lincoln, which i know is quite a way away for some of you, but for the sake of continuity, i have to take the photographs in a studio environment. However, I am also able to possibly get a makeshift studio together in Birmingham in my garage!so that would make travelling easier for some of you! If you are able to make it to the studios in Lincoln however, i can arrange some accommodation for you to stay over. The plan is to shoot you in your normal clothes and with little or no makeup on against a black and a white background, and then do the same again with you in costume. If you have groups of people you want to bring to be shot, that is fine too, the more the merrier! the general rule of thumb as far as costumes are concerned is bring either, your favourite, your best, or your most extravagant! if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask, and im really glad you all like the idea!

oh yeah, i also forgot to add that ill be attending the midlands con in february, but id like to get started asap!so if you make it up to lincoln or birmingham before the con ill be able to show you the results of the shoot there at the convention!

Thanks for the info I am in somewhat of the same boat as you when it comes to a web site.
Try seting up an group on FaceBook as a temp messure. Its working well for my self and my Company.

What's your time scale on this? I'm a bit tied up with work and costume-making until after Minamicon is out of the way, and I suspect it may be the same for a lot of other people.

well id say April at the very latest is when ill have to have it compiled enough to publish it for the end of university, so i want to have as many photo's as possible by then. when's minamicon exactly?

Minami is the last weekend of March.
