Help requried: Sora Wig
I've seen plenty of good Sora cosplayers recently, but I've personally got no idea how to do the wig, so was hoping someone lovely could give me a bit of advise.

Basically, I'd like to know:
1) What wig people recommend starting with?
2) Will it need to be cut at all?
3) What hair products people recommend? Is there a particular brand that's good?

Thanks in advance!

1) Punky style wig, like this:

It's ideal for spiked styles since the fibres already go in the right sort of gravity-defying direction.

2) Yes, you'll need to cut the long parts down, and it will almost certainly require some trimming to get the spikes the right shapes and length. Cut it after/as you create the spikes so you're getting an idea of how the overall style looks.

3) Any cheap hairsprays are fine (20p Tescos stuff or whatever), but Tresemmé Freeze Hold is excellent. All other good brands I've heard of seem non-existent in the UK. Glues and whatnot are an idea too, and can be good for getting spikes to come to a nice point.

Not much to add after Angelphie there, as thats exactly what I did! I dont have any pictures up here yet, but if you can remember what my wig looked like at Minami or the Ame just gone that is the result of a punky wig and simple hairspray.

I bought the punky-style wig that was just shoulder length, and it worked fine - I had to cut the back, but nothing from the sides or top, which was handy since I'm retarded at cutting hair The good thing about punky wigs is that you can actually brush/stroke the hair into spikes easily to see if it looks right, when you are happy spray it lightly with hairspray and blast it with a hair dryer! (on cool/medium, dont want to melt it!) I also swear by Tresemmé Freeze Hold, it really holds well, vertical spikes are no problem!

I had never done anything spikey before, and found this tutorial really helpful mainly because of the pictures -> http://www.coswiki.net/Spikey_Wig_Styles (Okay, so its the emo boy instead of Sora, but the principle is still the same!)

Good luck!

That's great, thanks both of you. One last question:

Do you know where to get a polystyrene head from? I've previously used a big coffeee tin to hold things in place, but a head would be better cos I could stick pins in it (and practice voodoo when I wasn't doing cosplay

I bought both of mine (one 'male', one 'female' ) from joke/fancy dress shops for about £2-£3 each. I've found that the male sized head is much better as its closer to the size of a human head, so if you have a choice, go for that one! Generally the shops dont advertise them for sale, but if you ask most of them will sell them to you

Failing that, apparently ebay has them very cheap

Thanks for the tips, it all seems to have worked well. You should see the results at Expo.
