Adventure Time! costume help c:
Hiya there! I plan on maybe doing a Magic Man costume for October Mcm Expo and I was wondering if I could get some advice on how to do his skin colour

As you can see he is green, would you guys recommend I get something like a morph suit, or use bodypaint or an equivalent? I have never used bodypaint before so I'm a complete novice in that xP

If you think paint would be best, are there any specific brands you would recommend, or any tips to keep it from smudging or running too much?

Thanks very much amigos, any and all answers are appriciated!

A morphsuit (or similar) to at least cover the arms and torse would probably be a good idea. Bodypainting is time consuming (ask a Homestuck cosplayer!) so minimising the need is a good start unless you want to add a couple of hours to your prep time (and turn everything you touch green!)

For the face, paints might be OK. I personally like Grimas facepaints (and a powder sealer to minimise rubbing off). Other people recommend Ben Nye or Snazzaroo paints, but I have no experience with them.

I would go with both. Use a morph suit for the stomach, arms etc and then facepaint the face (I've used Snazaroo, I feel they're good).

Not only is body paint time consuming to put it, it won't last on places with lots of movements. Particularly with hand, it will also transfer to other things. It'll be the same with your face - just don't rub against things though and it should be fine. When drinking, try and bring a straw with you as the act of drinking will cause colour loss on lips :3

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much both! Really helpful answers

I thought it may be quite a time consuming thing to do body paint in large amounts ^^ I can only imagine how difficult homestuck must be >.<

and I shall definitely bring a straw with me, thanks for the tip , it gets so hot at expo's so i'm sure that'll come in handy to prevent smudgey-mouth-man when I need a drink ^_^

Cheers!
