Edward Elric help!
The older/Movie version!

I'm stuck on the automail (the skin looking version) Here's some reference pictures:

The elbow is what is really stumping me. I've got some skin coloured fabric to make my arm piece, which I'm just going to make a long glove (will I need a pattern for this or could I just trace around my arm?) I was going to make the elbow bit out of card but it's too weak, I need somethings stronger. I've heard that Wonderflex is good? Can I paint the silver and gold on it? Or what other material do you surgest? Plus when he pulls out the string it goes back in sort of like something you'd find on a toy... Ooo maybe I could find a cheap toy and use the bit from it for that. I don't know, I need peoples help (I'm suck at cosplay DX)

Thankyou for reading this very looooooong post

that would be a really tricky one to make and look right ;x

from what i can gather about fake internals appliances (similar to the arnie terminator 2 appliances), they are made from cast latex, but that's all i know. i'd suggest making a cast of your elbow, sculpting the detail in clay, then casting of that. i assume that you paint the latex into the mould (which i have no idea what material you'd make from... maybe plaster?) doing the colour sequence in reverse to how i usually work (colours, black base, clear)

i've got work today, so i'll research into it all later.

Does anyone else have any hints cos I'm strugglering on this one DX Plus I don't think my budget can let me do all the latex casting and what not.
