I've just read through the last of these, so many people are worried about their bodies it's the number one thing listed. It's such a shame and I bet most of the time it's due to third party opinion rather than the individual.

For some reason it's rubbed me up the wrong way. I've decided to not change anything about my outward appearance for my Harley costume. I'm just going to spend loads of time wandering around naked until I'm comfortable that this is me and for that weekend me and Harley are the same person so THERE!

I'm self conscious about my legs too! You could always wear skin tone tights if you are worried about imperfections on your legs? Thats what I'm going to do >.<

I can't really do that :c he wears sandals so there's no way I could do it without it looking really weird!

This thread is PERFECT for me! I started cosplaying and wanted to look pretty but most of my fave characters have totally different body shapes to me and are quite skimpy outfits.

The one I have wanted to do since I saw the film a few years ago is Amber Sweet from Repo! The Genetic Opera. Here's a picture if you've not seen it (go see it if you haven't, its awesome ) : http://ny-image3.etsy.com/ialcr_fullxfull.45539.jpg

BUUUUUUTTTT despite all my self confidence issues and such I decided that I don't care what people say to me, I'm going to go out being happy to be me and cosplay whoever I want.

So for the first time ever I got some serious flesh out and cosplayed EVA from Metal Gear Solid 3 (pics on my costume page, feedback appreciated!). It really boosted my self confidence and has made me more determined to get Amber sorted for Kitacon next year .

So everyone, be happy with who you are and go for it! If anyone puts you down they aren't a true cosplayer as only true cosplayers give constructive criticism

Emily xx

I don't know whether or not it would work but a lot of shops stock tights that have no toes so you can wear sandals and peep toes and stuff

Well, to be honest I would get a little worried about doing something that shows off my upper body. I am pretty skinny and I kinda feel like people might not think I'm big enough to do certain characters other than like Cloud Strife. XD

This is a bit of a weird one, but I want to cosplay Lightning (FFXIII) so badly, but I'm put off by the sheer amount of other Lightning cosplayers. She's so overdone and I don't want to just be another one of the crowd.
Usually, that would stop me cosplaying someone altogether, but I just want to do her so badly that I'm still planning on it =3
But I'm just worried. I also know I won't be happy unless it's perfect to me. If I'm going to be in a sea of other cosplayers, I've got to be the best damn one I can be.

I'm tackling one of my fears : Vanille. I mean SO MUCH SKIN! But I'm doing it, will be wearing makeup all over my back though, to cover up my scar xD

i know how ya feel all the cosplays i want to do are really popular- im a slightly over the top when it comes to making a cosplay i also want it to be perfect as well as unique to me so i like to put variations on costumes - i find it more fun that way - i like being creative - big hugs ^^

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean! That's why I get put off from doing characters like Final Fantasy and Naruto because I like to stand out a least a little. It's not like I freak out whenever I see another person with the same character as me.

ANYWAY, before I go off on a tangent. At the end of the day, I'd say go for it anyway. Yeah, people might think "She's just another Lightning." But you kinda have to expect that a little when you do characters. If you're making the outfit yourself, then all I'll say is just to really try and put in the effort. If you go the extra mile I think people will at least notice you. I do it myself when i go to cons when I see a Naruto, for instance I usually think to myself "Hmmm... Looks good, but loads of people do Naruto, might as well wait until I find someone who stands out." You don't have to be the BEST Lightning by any description, just as long as you've really tried. At least I'LL think more of you for it.

Hard work + Time = Results

Thanks =]
I will be making it myself and hopefully will be able to make it perfect by my standards (fairly high). Also shall be trying my best to make her gunblade properly (if I'm allowed near tools) and in fact, shall do my best to make it moveable. Hopefully that should make me stand out a little =]
Plus being in character all day usually helps.
Thanks rosieroo as well =]

Ooooh, I had never intended to make a costume by myself as I think it is time-consuming and I am always not patient.

Ah i had so many ideas that i turned down for reasons such as these!

My dream cosplay is the mermaid Ariel costume, but i dont think i have got that much skin out before and the idea of showing my tummy off leaves me shaking! one day i will make sure i do it though

and for compleatly other reasons id love to do Cherry from Planet Terror... but she only has one leg. and i have two... have not worked a way around that yet XD

Wellll the costume i'm afraid to do most is either:
In the present: Clow reed, because I'm afraid that the amount of sewing and work would be overwhelming ^^'

The far future: I plan to grow my hair for quite a number of years so it's really, really long, then probably (I would love to) dye it pure white. I would like to cosplay sephiroth with my hair like this, I'd be slightly afraid though that I'd get loads of Sephiroth-fans come up to me and complain my hair colour wasn't right XD My height would be minor as I know at least one person would think 'he's way too short to do that character' , but I don't really mind if i'm not short enough I'll do it anyway 8D

I was a bit hesitant about showing anything more than my bare arms till recently, I was reminded/made aware of that cosplaying is just for fun and If i'm having fun then it doesn't matter what I look like So that's why I'm able to do the topless-Love Machine from Summer Wars xD

I'd love to do a DoC Vincent costume, but I'm terrified by the complexity of the sewing involved. It would be a lot of leather based machinery, and it's not the sort of thing you want to screw up either. Would I be able to get the fit right? Because I can think of few things worse to look at on myself than an ill fitting leather bodysuit all saggy around the arse. Eek.

There's also the issues of being short, blonde and female, but compared to my inability to sew on a button straight, these seem fairly minor...

Snow bandaged up...which happens to be what i am attempting for Ayacon!

Reason? Pretty much every reason from it being my first one, not being too handy with a needle and thread (its got worse as i have got older)to being pretty much topless the entire time. He seemed pretty simple to do sans coat etc but its harder than i thought to find bits.

Still its coming together nicely and bar a few slight inaccuracies i am not being deterred! Upping the gym routine more than normal and a good quantity of booze while i'm there will also help matters XD

Anything with lots of detail on D:
I see all those amazing cosplays that have so much detail on and i just think 'Oh god no! Id die! D:' Take for example, the costume Kamijo wears in the music video for Seranade. I absolutely adore it, but there is lots of embroidery and goldness that (for me) wouldnt be possible to do. Maybe one day i could actually get round to figuring out a way of doing it, but for now ill just love it from afar haha ^^

I'm a noobie at cosplay so when I look at people's cosplay pictures of some of the ones I want to do I feel like I shouldn't even attempt it.

Also, due to my weight (which I'm now trying to lose but its hard work) I thought that I myself shouldn't be cosplaying at all but I plucked up the courage and went to my first con as Ash. However, I still feel unconfident to cosplay anything other than guys as I am overweight so I feel like I don't have the figure for them and that they won't suit me.

25 Jul 2011 - 11:2264218
The costume I'm most afraid to create but will have to someday is a Kon (Bleach) mascot costume.
This is because of the skill required and the vastness of the costume (I'm just over 6 feet).

And I would have to find myself a Rukia ...
'Neeee-san!!!'

25 Jul 2011 - 13:4264223
I love Jo from Burst Angel, and Yoko from Gurren Lagann. but Im afraid to cosplay them ^^'

I want to cosplay Princess Euphemia from Code Geass and Golden Witch Beatrice from Umineko, however big ballgown-style dresses are beyond my skills. I would be afraid to attempt them due to the sheer difficulty I would have in knowing where to start and throughout the whole making process XD

Maybe one day when my skills have improved significantly I will be able to cosplay them ^^

I think you would look amazing as Euphemia I'm sure you can buy her costume, not sure on prices though
