Hi everyone, just need a little bit of help my A-level photography at college. I've basically decided to do one unit on cosplaying, and I just need a couple of questions to be answered for it.
Why do you go to conventions?
Why do you cosplay?

To the first question also the chance to attend the panels and to learn about new series, parts of Japanese culture and often just for a laugh. I'm an avid collector of various bits of merch, so the dealers have some appeal to me.
As for why I cosplay: its a way of showing appreciation for a character, a means of escapism from everyday life and for the roleplaying aspect. The construction part lets me test my creative abilities and learn new skills and this in turn gives me a sense of achievement when it turns out well. Of course its always nice as well when someone else takes your photo and shows their appreciation for the character choice or the costume. |

Mostly to meet new people and to show off my cosplay. I also like to see other cosplays, watch performances, buy things I couldn't really get anywhere else and take part in events like masquerades and meet-ups. Why do you cosplay? Also to meet new people. Plus I get to be someone else for a little while and it feels great when someone recognizes who you are and asks for a photo or compliments your costume. I go to conventions to give me a chance to meet like minded people and spend the weekend hanging out with them in cosplay. So the bottom line is - they give me an excuse to cosplay. Why do you cosplay? My cosplay is purely a natural progression from my love of fancy dress. I enjoy making cosplays, wearing them and getting photos. I continue to cosplay as I'm constantly testing myself to make big and better cosplays. I do it to be the character but sometimes it's more the outfit then the character - so that plays a part also. |

Because it's fun. OK, in more detail, conventions are a way of spending a weekend with friends, and strangers that share a common interest. They are a combination of holiday and shopping trip, and chance to show off my costumes to a more appreciative audience than the general public. Cosplay is a chance to be a diva, a way to signal your love for a show/game/film to potential new friends, a challenge to your creative skills, and a chance to take a break from being you if only for a few hours. |

I've only been to one and the reason for that was Stan Lee Cosplaying I'd have to say the opportunity to not be yourself. Its like an escape, as previously mentioned. Also it allows you to be creative and come up with solutions to problems you come across. And the fact that its a good feeling when you get compliments or photos taken. |

Definitely, definitely just for the sheer atmosphere of being surrounded by like-minded people. It's really comforting, especially coming from a fairly isolated and quiet town, to go to these massive, buzzing events, and being reminded you're not the only one into these things. They're also great for meeting new friends. I'd also say that there's a good amount of merchandise available [especially from rather obscure shows/movies/games etc.] which doesn't have to be ordered online. Why do you cosplay? Cosplaying has always been to me about characters I just connect with, characters I love, characters that have a special place in my heart. Sometimes I want to show my love for a series, and make plans to cosplay a character from that, also because by cosplaying characters you like, it's easier to look out for other people who enjoy those characters and shows. __________________ quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |
