Making Leather Armour (without leather)
I'm considering making some Dark Brotherhood armour.

Now, obviously it's meant to be leather, but for various reasons (largely because actual leather creeps me out), I'm looking for an alternative. I know I can go down the craft foam and a catsuit route, but I'm looking for alternatives. I've read something fairly recently about using industrial felt and coating it with glue and FEV (See here).

Has anyone used this method? Does it work? Am I going to be able to move?

Also, does anyone have a clue whether craft felt would work? I can get that easily and locally and it would make my life so much easier.

If its the dead animal side of leather that creeps you out you do get fake stuff, it has a lot of different names, in America it's called pleather but in the UK it comes under leatherette but also PVC so you could maybe try one of them?

Yeah, it's the whole dead animal skin thing that kind of creeps me out.

I'm always a little put off by pleather or whatever - every time I've used it for anything, it seems to photograph really shiny, which makes me sad. Perhaps I'm missing something?

I've only ever used the tiniest bit of pleather/leatherette so I can't really comment on the shininess but you could maybe try this?

You can get matte leatherette. I'd link you, but it's easier to find in shops. But more has a slight sheen to it (but you can get rid of that with the nail varnish).
