Yeah I agree with Carmina's post about not needing a pattern. You could get your fabric (Cotton Drill would be good as it's heavy weight so you can get away without lining it ) lay down on the fabric and get someone to draw a rectangle round you back. Using this square fold it in half and cut out two further rectangles that will be slightly wider than the half you had previously. Now sew the the two smaller panels to the large rectange making sure you don't sew the top edge completely because you will need space for your head to go Also when you sew the top edge if you angle is down slightly from the neck to sleeve it will sit nicer on your body. Also at this point edge all the remaining edges. You will need to add a fastening. I suggest either an open ended zip or hook and eye type. They both have the merits and disadvantages but you'll learn with time which you prefer. Either way it's very important to sew with both items matching on both sides so easier to sew closed. You could also use velcro but don't buy the stick on stuff because the glue never sticks properly and then is a pain in the bottom to sew by hand or machine because the glue gunks up. Now this is done you just need to add the white detailing. I would be tempted to do this with a matt ribbon or bia binding as you won't have to worry about sealing the edge and its already on strip.
