Forgive me for embedding your image for you - it's easier for reference. I think I'd begin by finding a suitable form fitting dress, in black or silver - after a bit of research it looks like it's just a modified tulip skirt, so that might be a way into the 'shape' of the costume. Religion has a 'tulip wrap shirt dress' here but getting hold of one for the pattern might be difficult. As for material - well I was going to say formed foam for the skirt, but it depends how much work you want to put in. I would use foam, seal it and all the rest, but use mirror film for the actual coating. Not sure how you'd go about it - my friend has recently used mirror film on his Spiderman lenses, and it looks fantastic (just to give you an idea of finish):
I hope this gives you a bit of inspiration. I know it can be difficult when you know what you want, but not how to make it! __________________ 'There is only do or do not. There is no try.' Last edited by LewaKyser (28 Aug 2012 - 09:04) |

Another option would be to use Silver PVC fabrics or Metal effect leatherette. It won't give as shiny finish as the chrome vinyl roll but it can be sewn which I always found easier than working with foam when I was beginning. You could also make the body of the dress from this fabric. As an alternative to foam for the 'Tulip base' you could create wire frame out of craft wire. Good luck - its a really awesome dress |

Beginning these things is always harder than when you have something to work with. If you have any other puzzles to do with it until November, there's usually an Islander that'll help. While I'm at it, I just found an eBay seller that might sell the metallic leatherette you need for £5.99 a metre: here. Hope we get some piccies soon __________________ 'There is only do or do not. It looks good, though bear in mind that pattern also includes wiring for the cups so you might need to go to Dunelm Mill or somewhere for the wires. __________________ 'There is only do or do not. There is no try.' |
