Help Please!
I am going to a convention for the first time next year and I am super excited! I am having a hard time figuring out who I want to go as though. I want my first convention to be perfect! So any suggestions? Here's a picture of me for reference.

Hi! Welcome to Cosplay Island

It's tricky when people ask for advice on who they should cosplay since the best way to be happy with a costume is to pick a character you really like. You've been a little bit vague! Help us out a bit by answering some of these questions:

What kinds of things do you enjoy?
Favourite anime/manga/game/TV series?
Do you have a preference on a source, ie would you rather do an anime cosplay, something from a video game, sci-fi costuming etc?
Are you planning to make something from scratch, assemble it from existing articles of clothing, or commission something?
If you're going to make it from scratch, how are your sewing skills?
Are you happy with the idea of wearing a wig?

Flesh things out a bit and you'll get more useful suggestions!

Ok I enjoy reading. I read almost 3 books a week. I like to hike, run, photography, crafts. My favorite series are Soul Eater, Fruits Basket, Inuyasha, Naruto, Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, Princess Ai, Final Fanasy, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and any Miyazaki film. I don't really have any preference on a source. Yes I want to make it. I Make a lot of my own cloths and my mother makes Halloween costumes for a living. Wigs do not bother me I wear them a lot actually.

What convention are you going to? In May, there is an Ocarina of Time group for the Saturday of May Expo. The group is on Facebook for it
https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/387668664607702/

Characters that have been taken are; Adult and child versions of Link, Malon and Zelda, Dark Link, Ganondorf, Shiek, Darunia, Adult Ruto, Nabooru, Postman, Red Gerudo Guard and Skull Kid.

Could you add some more info? What sort of costumes are you comfortable with? Guys, girls? Covered, revealing?

So many series and thus so many characters!

Essentially, the key is to do characters you like. If you're unsure and don't have anyone to go with (which is pretty common), have a look at what groups are forming (they usually appear on here) and latch onto them. That's how I started.

I'm going to Ayacon. I want a girl costume. It doesn't matter how revealing it is. I am going with my boyfriend. We thought about going as Cloud and Areith but I'm not sure if I would make a good Aerith. I wanted other suggestions from experienced cosplayers as to who would be a good fit for me.

I all honesty I think give Aeris a go. I mean the fact that your bf wants to cosplay as Cloud means that you can get nice group photos and if you really love the character that can shine through more than the accuracy/sewing skills.

I appreciate that there are certain cosplays that I've done that suit me more than others and I have kind of found the niche which works well for me but I didn't find that until I'd been cosplay for a year or so. So what I'm trying to say is it's kind of something you need to find on your own. It's also a lot harder to create nice cosplays when you have no love for a character If your still really not sure you could also look at cosplays from the amount of work they will take. If your not feeling very confident at sewing try opting for something that can mainly be created from stuff you've bought. This way you will have a fail safe cosplay you can fall back on if your sewing adventures don't turn out as well as you hoped to begin with.

Also as mentioned above consider looking at the groups that are going to be at Aya and pick cosplays that would fit into these groups

I think you should give Aeris a shot too! You'd suit her very well, methinks.
You should never go as a character you don't feel comfortable with though. It'll take away from your enjoyment!

Go for Aeris!!

Bit of advice with cosplay; don't be limited by how you look - most of them are artificially created (hell, even with Live Action cosplays - remember that they have professional make-up on and are touched up most the time).

Ayacon.....

The only group I can find (from a quick search) that has stuff you like is The Disney Dress Sphere group. Essentially, Final Fantasy X-2 designs on Disney Princesses.

If you're going with your bf, do you want to do "couple" cosplays? ie, Tohru and Kyo? Winry and Ed? Riza and Roy?

There's a Kingdom Hearts group being discussed over on the Ayacon forums, perfect for if you decide to go with Aeris. I think if that was you gut instinct you should go with it. I always have more fun and motivation to get sewing when it's a character that I like. Plus having a matching friend is really good fun.

Hi
I think you'd do a very good job at FullMetal Alchemist and Soul Eater cosplays. I'm actualy cosplaying as a character from both Animes (Edward FMA / Crona SE) I watch both Animes a Lot and I think you could cosplay as most characters from both animes. Oh and Kingdom Hearts although I've only played the first game, I think you'd suit those characters as well.
Hope it helped
