Makeup help please?
Hi, i have been a tomboy for the past 20 years of my life and have never used more makeup than a bit of foundation and eyeliner, so i'm quite clueless when it comes to it.

I'm looking for a large eye shadow pallete with lots of colours and shades. I found loads of stuff on amazon but i don't know what things like metallic, matte, Neutral and Pastel are all supposed to be and the differences between them.

Also i'm doing a little sister cosplay from bioshock and i need to make my skin look super pale, if anyone has any sugestions on what i could use that would be really helpfull

Thank you for reading ^_^

Hi, I'm not that great with make-up but I can explain some things!

Metallic looks like this;

it looks like metal! It's usually shiny or sparkly.

Matte means not shiny or sparkly at all, like this;
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3DyIYkX1DFs/TBj9RzbOARI/AAAAAAAABQE/NUQz5JsIZEg/s1600/pxt9re8m.jpg
http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&rlz=1C1CHFX_en-gbGB494GB494&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&tbnid=Vpc4IcisaHjPYM:&imgrefurl=http://www.paintandpowderstore.com/proddetail.php%3Fprod%3DPPS-0060&imgurl=http://www.paintandpowderstore.com/prodimages/pps-0060_lg.jpg&w=350&h=301&ei=b6o7UL7_EuGa1AXopYDgCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=185&vpy=142&dur=2610&hovh=208&hovw=242&tx=78&ty=113&sig=116222770938808316244&page=1&tbnh=134&tbnw=156&start=0&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:70
http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?um=1&hl=en&rlz=1C1CHFX_en-gbGB494GB494&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&tbnid=k126WcKnOpXQNM:&imgrefurl=http://xxxbeautyredefinedxxx.blogspot.com/2012/03/wet-n-wild-matte-eyeshadow-makeup-look.html&imgurl=http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AkhB_mIBDjM/T1WKeOUXbzI/AAAAAAAADvE/cWKKJsQZ-no/s1600/wnw%252Bi%252Blove%252Bmatte%252Bmakeup%252Blook%252B3.jpg&w=600&h=496&ei=b6o7UL7_EuGa1AXopYDgCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=384&vpy=4&dur=292&hovh=204&hovw=247&tx=163&ty=129&sig=116222770938808316244&page=2&tbnh=140&tbnw=171&start=20&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:13,s:20,i:176

Neutral I think means nude colours, natural colours, like this;
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_if6Y1UGT0gg/S8qNY86hUDI/AAAAAAAABl0/NZYXVVffmSA/s1600/DSC00173.JPG

Browns and golds and creams and pinks and peach!

And Pastels mean pale, light, colours, like baby pink or baby blue or lilac, like this;
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2qUtXaHxuBQ/T9oGIHQhiBI/AAAAAAAABE4/3qil5lLa40w/s1600/MUA%2Bpretty%2Bpastels%2Beyeshadow.JPG

Also maybe for looking pale a green concealer like the corrector stick from the Natural Collection might help, if you need concealer

I hope this helps!

wow thank you so much this has helped me out a lot and i now at least know what i'm looking for with eye shadows. Thanks for the effort you put into it.

I'd usually do all the research myself but i have very little time on the computer since my laptop died.

Hey you could get something like this -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manly-120-Color-Eyeshadow-Palette-Makeup-Eye-Shadow-/180679929740?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Make_up_Cosmetics_Eye_Shadow_PP&hash=item2a115cef8c#ht_3073wt_952

It's awesome for beginners, i have one just like it and im surprised by how good the quality was! it has a mixture of matte and shimmery shades so theres lots of looks you can do with any colour you wanted, although if you wanted it to last all day and night you might want to look into buying an eyeshadow primer

As for pale skin you could use white foundation, Barry M do one and i think they sell it in superdrug if you wanted really white skin you could just use white face paint, snazaroo paints are really good

hope i helped im a geek when it comes to makeup so if you wanted to ask me anything just ask me here or at my tumblr - http://scarlethallow.tumblr.com/

xx

I bought a multi-coloured eyeshadow pallate for a friend from Superdrug not long ago. Can't remember the brand but it had about 8 shades that looked nice alone or could be blended together in many combinations. It's useful if you want to start experimenting!

I think it was Beauty UK?

I too had this issue!! And I asked.

I think this thread could help? http://cosplayisland.com/forum?c=showthread&ThreadID=7800

(it was pretty deep in, I have it faved)

But, I found trawling through Youtube pretty good. You get so many tutorials :3

I naturally have super pale skin, so I went with a super pale liquid foundation. However, I bought a rather expensive brand which probably won't be ideal if you're only using it for cosplay.

I think the best way of shopping for make-up is to actually go into store. You can then see the colours and match up the foundation to the one you want. I don't know where you live, but in King's Lynn, Norwich, Colchester, Ipswich and Great Yarmouth is a shop called Just Essentials which has good quality stuff at affordable prices :3

Take heart, fellow naturelle! I'm going to be fairly heavily made up for Sif and I'm nervous as hell about my blood red lipstick cracking/smudging.

Can anyone here suggest a decent lipstick sealer?

Can't recommend a lipstick sealer but Maybelline Superstay 24h Colour lipgloss is AMAZING. I bought the bright red for prom and it goes on really easily, stays for ages even through eating or drinking - it comes with a little stick of balm that seals it. I haven't ever seem it crack noticeably or smudge as long as you use the lipbalm. It's amazing!

HANG ON! *rushes to make-up bag*

For Enchantress, I got "Maybelline Super Stay 24 color" in Cherry Pie. Which can be seen here.

For Lady Loki, I got a Bourjois in "Sweet Kiss 56 Rouge sur mesure" then used Bourjois "Effect 3D" once the first had dried to seal it. Which can be seen here.

Yush, I'm in the same boat with bright red lippy! I think all the Asgardian females share the same make-up bag.

If you dont like lipstick or gloss, I recommend Revlon's Just Bitten lipstains. They act like felt tips for your mouth so they're really easy to apply, and they don;t have that lipstick-y taste or lipgloss-y stick. They also come with a sealing lipbalm!
If you want that little bit of extra seal and shine, a bit of vaseline works just fine!

I used the 'Gothic' one for Ariel, and the 'Beloved' one for Thumbelina. I only had to reapply each one once or twice, and that's because I have a horrible habit of chewing my lips, especially after I eat XD

Gonna add, these do work wonders. However, I found it more than a little difficult to get off my lips after lol (also, they're not so good as the lipsticks/glosses if you have uber chapped lips like I do)

If you already have the lipstick, lipcote works wonders! I've even worn it over light coats of glosses and it's kept the colour although this prob isn't the best idea! It's not cheap but mines lasted ages!
