Cosplay Volunteers Wanted! Cancer UK Shine Event
Hi guys!

Cancer UK every year runs an event called shine. This is an event based around the streets of London in the evening and on into the late night, and is in essence a fun run type event. The aim being to raise money for the Charity.
My friend is in charge of entertainment for the runners and this is where you lovely cosplayers come in. She is looking for volunteers to dress up as characters, be in character, and be grouped together potentially around pit-stops to cheer on the runners/participants as they go along the run.

The event is being run (sorry for bad, unintentional pun), on the evening/night of 29th September 2012.

If you are London-based or can travel to London easily then we would love for you to get involved.
Below is some information from my friend Lizzie about the event and if you are interested please email her (also if you have any questions then email her too), her email address is written at the bottom of the information.

Thanks for your time, and I hope lots of you get involved!

Shine is Cancer Research UK’s night-time walking marathon, taking place in London on the 29th September, 2012. The event is open to both men and women to raise vital funds for our research and throughout the event we use light as a symbol of hope and the progress that our doctors, nurses and scientists bring to the lives of people affected by cancer through our life-saving research. Shine is a unique fundraising event where participants can choose to raise money for a particular cancer that means something to them. Cancer Research UK funds research into all types of cancer and this is wonderful way of making Shine even more personal and relevant for everyone taking part.

2011 saw almost 10,000 people wind their way through the streets of London; their dedication, glow paint and energy turning the early morning streets into an incredible sight! Shine 2012 promises to be an exceptional event and we hope to welcome 10,000 walkers, making a vital difference in the fight against cancer. The event will start and finish at Battersea Power Station and take in some of London’s most famous sites set against the night sky. As you can imagine, this event requires that little something extra to cheer on the weary participants and I am hoping that is where you come in!

Cancer Research UK is seeking enthusiastic people to support the event and its participants by donning incredible costume, getting in to character (unless you're evil, then please be evil with a smile) and 'cheering' on our participants, congratulating them that they've made it this far, having your photo taken, shaking hands (if you have hands) and involving yourself in the spirit of the night. Each and every person is vital to the success of the event. Everyone will be in groups or pairs and it'll certainly make for an interesting Saturday night!

If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact me at email

Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon!

She's not massively worried about who people cosplay, so long as their in character and enthusiastic with cheering on the participants.
The idea is more to be an encouraging influence than worrying about recognisability (if you catch my meaning)

Is anybody going to SHINE tomorrow in costume and want to meet up for fun times/cheering on the brave walkers?
