I wore my Rinoa outfit on dress up day at work last Xmas (work in GAME) and a Japanese couple recognised me =D They didn't speak much English but they still tried to talk to me. Really made my day.

We quite often have cosplay photoshoots in the local botanical gardens. The old people avoid us like the plague, but the workers there have actually gotten used to seeing us in different costumes now!

while walking to Amecon this year I may have caused several road accidents. Funny that! (it's strange what a LeBlanc costume will do...)

Haha, ailsa-chan and I had a similar experience then, too.

Walking to AmeCon, me dressed as Seung Mina and ailsa-chan as Ivy we encountered a male who asked a lot of questions as to why we were dressed like that. He was very keen on attending the event and was asking how he could get tickets (if I remember correctly he even got his wallet out).

Thankfully we managed to escape him by saying that it was a private event and there were no tickets for sale. He looked a bit bewildered but we found it most amusing.

Usually, when out with cosplayers, car crashes tend to occur because people are too busy watching us than the road.

Also, I've caught people wondering if a pure white wig was real or not.

Thats happened to me on more than one occasion!!!!!
Ive cosplayed quite a few times while wearing a white wig, but I wasnt at a proper convention, it was a normal shopping centre. after sitting on the bus for at least half an hour people just assumed my hair was white. until my sister pulled it off and my red hair (now looking like an afro) was revealed. I got some embarassing stares.

Man im never gunna live that down....

Hm, well walking around Torquay in cosplay got a few stares.
Due to three of us being in Alice in Wonderland costumes we did get a few shouts though. >W<
Some people walked past and I swear they were singing 'The Unbirthday Song.'
Some people came upto us and asked us what were dressed as/for.
One person even noticed Alice. >W<

Also on the way to the canceled Manga Night in Torquay I was stopped by a small crowd whilst waiting for the bus to park up. They were all 'Are you in a panto?' 'You look really nice!' 'How cool is this?!' I explained it and they let me off with a wave. It's good to se decent people in Torbay. xD

Yea some people can be down right rude to cosplayers out on the street yet other people are caught off guard by it.

BTW What is Panto?

Panto = Pantomime.
Its a form of theatre. Usually for younger kids, acting our fairytales and the like.
You get adult panto too. Which is fun, if kind of disturbing to watch at times.

Had quite a few stares walking through central Bristol in my Kaname cosplay on new years.

I'd have expected people to expect people dressed up for new years, but so many people just seemed to stare a fair bit.

When I finished Link a few friends of mine decided to take me to the nearest Tesco's to 'test run' the cosplay they claimed. x3
I got many weird looks, and one of the employees came up to us and said she thought her co-worker was hallucinating when he said he was sure he saw Link running around the isles with armfulls of ice cream XD
Good times~
Can't wait to see the reactions when travelling to Glasgow in cosplay XD that'll be interesting..

Nice stories guys ^^)
My first cosplay at Midland Expo - changing in a toilet cubicle in the gents - when I had finally got into my Sailor Mars cossie with full makeup, I opened the latch with a loud clank and calmly strutted out. The distinctive sound of high heels clip clopping through the gents caused considerable panic in there.. talk about rabbits caught in the headlight! All those wide eyed faces turning around, it was quite funny (although a bit scary too). ^^

When we first starting cosplaying around town about 2 years ago we had escaped the rain into the local mall I was dressed as vincent valentine and my friend joe was dressed as L. Alot of the group had began walking around and stuff much to the dismay of the securtiy guards. we were aproached and a dialogue opened. here is a fraction of the conversation and thoughts.

Security: So what are you all doing here today?

Me: well were just having a day out *holds virgin bag up* just come back from virgin and now waiting for the rest.

Security: you know groups arent encouraged in malls?

Me: well yes but we are patrons and most have bought, were not causing trouble in fact people are taking pictures.

Securtiy: now look I know you have all *looks us up and down* come dressed as pokemon characters or something.

L cosplayer: Bursts out laughing in his face and then stops abruptly.

*inside my mind* sweet mother of god, this is either gonna go one way or the other*

Security: well just....just mark you make your way out now....

15 cosplayers: phew!!!

I am assuming he thought we were tradgicly small minded, for years he will be telling of the retarded kid in the white shirt who laughed crazily ^.^

Hehe I had a similar mishap at the Midland Expo. I was crossplaying as a guy, and after much deliberation decided to use the girls loos. A guy behind me realised I was heading towards the toilets and followed me, he evidently didn't know where they were. Anyway I went straight into the ladies, and I heard him open the door behind me, then go 'Uah!' as a girl walked out. He had the most peculiar look on his face before backing out and into the gents opposite! XD

Another embarrassing incident was meeting my boyfriend's brother's boyfriend in the gents at uni whilst swapping my clothes with my male friend!

9. Crowded trains are even more odd and interesting while in cosplay

14. A 100-foot start running glomp never ends well. It may cause serious bodily harm to the glompee.

Sorry to double post !!
I have also been on a train in cosplay. I was on the london underground dressed as Sephiroth, one of the most embarassing experiences of my life.

AND

Takk and Tash had a huge glomp at Midlands Expo. I was laughing but shocked at the same time, I didnt really know what to do when they were both tackled to the floor.

Also I had a embarassing experience in the toilets too.
Sometimes I cosplay in Milton Keynes Shopping Centre, and have earned some stares walking out of the Ladies on many occasions dressed as K (Gravitation), Sephiroth (Final Fantasy) and Riku (Kingdom Hearts).

OK ONE MORE.

Not a good idea to go into Wilkinsons in a large group when your in costume. The security guard came over while we were looking at dog collars and said:

Security: "I hope you behaving yourselves"
Everyone else: (Nodds and grunts)
Security: "Ive been watching you on camera you know"
Everyone else: (Grunts some more)
Security: "I think you better leave"

I think I will stick to cosplaying at events and not in town.
O.o

At the Mega Recon in Doncaster last September some of us there decided to go to Tesco's as a Miku Hatsune cosplayer wanted a leek. Needless to say we got some interesting looks, especially round Tesco's. We also wanted batteries but couldn't find them anywhere and the guy we asked to help us looked like he wanetd to the ground to swallow him up...needless to say he avoided eye contact with any of us lol.

ROFL. THE GUY THAT WAS TAKING PHOTOS ON HIS PHONE WHILST PRETENDING TO TEXT. LOLOLOL.
Ahh. good times :3

im also double posting. but i felt the urge to express this.

On red nose day, for charity, i was dressed as super mario for the day.
After school me and a friend whent up town, were i was harrased by about 5 kids at my feet going ''OMG MUM LOOK ITS MARIO ITS MARIO MUM LOOK LOOK'' I just waved at them and said ''itsa mee mario'' which... sadly made them 10x worse.
They also couldnt sus that i was girl. ;_;

Also that day, i REALLY wanted a photo of me trying to shove myself down a drain, and because there were none were i was, we whent to the near by loo's, were i proceded to climb into a sink, then crouch in it whilst i had a friend took a photo, she then almost collapsed in laughter when about 3 other girls walked in and i was stood in a sink singing the tune that plays when mario goes into a secret area. LOL.

This was at Amecon 2008 and we had gone back to the hotel to get changed for the ball. My friends had dressed as the Joker and Two-face (I was Edward Elric haha) and they both looked amazing. While we had walked out we toke some pictures for alaugh of them when all of a sudden a full crowd of people had appeared and were taking pictures too XD One guy even wanted a picture of use all together and kept offering to send us the pictures if we gave him email *we said we were late and just ran away from him* People seemed quite interested about why we were dressed up and were we were going, and of course, since we had a Joker people were shouting in the street "Why so serious?!" The Joker ended up scaring a little girl in a car haha XD Her face was priceless (I've not had any bad cosplay experiences so far thank the lord, I don't cosplay much in public though)

This is fun. Ok, at Minami 13 me and mum went into Tesco in search of plasters (because I had a mishap at the gundam speed building competition) and I was dressed as Dark Mousy from DNAngel. I remember a little kid staring at me and some of the Tesco employees found it interesting and asked about the con. One of them said they'd rather be at the con than at work.
At Fuyucon, me and mum went to the Tales of Robin hood with me dressed as L with my Nekozawa cape on. Got some interesting stares when I pulled my wig off and handed it to mum so I could do the archery.
At Ame 06, on the way back to the hotel I waved at some cops going past in a car.
At Ame 08, at the hotel I had just finished getting dressed as Orochimaru when mum wanted some more sugar so I went to ask the maid/cleaner. Apparently I scared her lol

After Amecon, I went around town with my Itachi plush sitting in my hoodie and got asked about it. Another time I was wearing my Akatsuki jacket and went to a Chinese shop to get a friend a Naruto fan and bumped into an actual Naruto fan lol, we exchanged e-mails and met up at Recon.

When Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 was released, I went to the game shops dressed as Itachi, got a few stares but the manager at game thought it was awesome XD but one of the guys at Gamestation (who is a huge Naruto fan) didn't even mention the outfit.

And I embarressed my cousin on her birthday by turning up as Itachi (one cousin thought I was a vampire even after I said I was a ninja), and later dressed as Orochimaru for my own birthday. Rather than be embarressed, they thought my costumes were awesome.

And, my friend has had some interesting experiances too - ninja running into a school yard while him and his friend were dressed as Deidara and Itachi and asking where the nine-tailed fox was, standing on a wall posing (his pose was Itachi's rage mode from Broken Bond) with their friends playing dead on the floor below, running around a shopping centre and a few other things ^^;; I think he said him and his friend ninja ran through a group of chavs that were showing off their cars, stopped midway to do a random ninja pose, and ninja ran off. Apparently the chavs just stood there shocked and confused ^^;

Other things I've heard of are some cosplayers getting hassled by chavs but got scared when a Pyramid Head cosplayer walked past acting in-character. A Kakashi at Fuyucon went out with a free hugs sign and random normal people came up and hugged him. A full Akatsuki group going to Morrisons at Ame08 and getting followed by the guards.

Actually, walking to the con at Ame08 was strange for me because no one payed much attention lol ^^;

Aw man I got some great ones

1. Being checked out and hit on by a guy while I'm in Gaara from Naruto cosplay and he wasn't awear I was a girl.

2. I was cosplaying Jin from Samurai Champloo and my friend was doing Fuu from the same anime, we were in ASDA's being all cool and buying .. cake I think.. and these asians leapt out at us and followed us around for ages cus we were dressed in kimono things.

3. While in Gothic Lolita [Not cosplay, I know] a guy yells at me and a friend 'WHERES THE PARTY?' in which I reply with a hip thrust 'IN NY PANTS' and they shut up.

4. I was cosplying Usopp from One Piece and buying drinks with some friends, the poor cashier asked for ID.. looked at the ID then me... then the ID.. and me.. this happened a few times before she just shurged and sold me the drink.

5. While in Naruto cosplay group some random russians asked what we were drinking, I was drunk and offered them a pringal/crisp.
